Hello from Aubrey TX

Post by Texas Wing » Sun Dec 01, 2019 9:57 am

Just moved here from Hawaii and am purchasing my first handgun this week (xmass present to myself) and was thinking the TP9DA was my choice especially after reading all the great reviews it got, but should I be looking at other models as well like the SF or SA? Let me know your thoughts as they would be appreciated.

Welcome to the club TexasWing..........the DA is an excellent choice. If it (ed. It is) my favorite of all the striker guns. I dearly love that DA/SA trigger.
I have 2 of the DA's, the Elite and a C-100 hammer gun (among others)

I would favor the Elite One over the SF (no opinion on the SA).

Nickel internals and a better slide release in a slightly smaller package.

I'm happy to meet you on Tuesday at the Frisco Gun Club if you want to try out my SFX. Sadly I sold off my SF and my SF Elite as I just didn't shoot them anymore after getting the SFX.... But, you would at least get a good feel for the trigger and how the Canik's feel, shoot, etc....

SA's my favorite striker Canik shoots like a laser, though I confess no experience with the DA just the SF, Elite, SFX and SA. If you've no plans on carrying it I'd maybe lean SFx

I have the DA, love to shoot it - it's a fantastic shooter with a super short reset in SA. Having the DA feature/decocker is great.
I must point out one thing. Some of the larger Caniks, DA included, may have some machining issues on the PIC rail where the cuts are not deep enough to properly fit the mounting plate for light/laser accessories. YMMV, but I have the issue. There is one thread here on the subject worth reading.
I still use the DA for my nightstand gun with the Olight Mini just snapped on for now. After testing, it will slide off after about 8-10 rounds, so it is a flaw, but I can live with it until I purchase my 1911 in 45acp; which will be the nightstand replacement.

If you don't mind the smaller Elite (15rds vs. 18rds; grip length difference) the Elite is a laser beam shooter, has more features - minus the DA capability, and I have no issues mounting anything on that Pic rail.

Or, what the guys above wrote.

Have a blast!

Hi Mike thanks for the offer but out of town till Friday this week. Thinking at this point going with the DA, maybe we can get together at the Frisco Gun club and shoot a few rounds. Speaking of rounds and recommendations for range ammo for the DA?

Sure, just let me know. I’m pretty open. For range plinking I use whatever I can find that’s cheap. My canik’s take everything I feed them without a hitch.

Hey Mike I went to the Frisco Gun range website to order my DA but as of today they no longer carry that model. Any tips at where I can by the DA, as I have never done this before.

Darn good question. Sitting at discount tire so I’m limited on my searches. I know academy sells canik but not sure what models. Also try Cabelas

Or $345 if you're looking for the burnt bronze. I think the DA is a phenomenal gun. I grew up shooting DA/SA handguns though, so the transition from double to single action for me is comfortable. https://dahlonegaarmory.com/product/can ... z-181-dasa

Hey Dave! Have you tried Bud’s Gun Shop online? They ship free, no tax, and all you pay is FFL transfer fees at local gun shop you have Bud’s ship it to. You may have some luck at their online store.

Welcome Sir!

I’ve not tried the DA yet. I’ll trade you a few rounds from my SFX. I can meet during the day if you can.
