20 round magazine question

Post by KingRob22 » Fri May 31, 2019 12:04 pm

Picked this 20 round magazine up today and fit it on my TP9SF Elite. The slide is acting like it catches the mag and will not completely close after inserting the mag and charging the gun. It’s in the same position as when the magazine is empty and the slide has locked back. Is this normal or did I get the wrong magazine? Was I mistaken to think the Elite would handle the 20 round magazines?

Not sure what you mean exactly by "The slide will not return after firing the trigger". Are you saying that the slide won't close with the magazine inserted? A little more detail in what the issue is will help. I'm no expert but I believe that magazine should work fine.

Sorry about that I can see why that is confusing. (Edited original post) When I pull the slide back to charge the pistol and it begins to return, it catches and will not slide shut. It’s like the slide is catching the magazine at the top.

:-? ...I've run my SFx 18 round mags I bought for IDPA in my Elite without any issues. The mag should be the same as the 20 round mags, they're just 18s that have a +2 extensions on them.

So with a the 20 round mag empty, does the slide go into lock when you pull the slide back and stay there?

If you insert a full mag and you rack the slide, does a round get stripped and chambered? Or are you saying the slide stops short of doing that and doesn't go into battery?

Along with Glenn's questions I would ask, when you are in the situation you describe where the slide is "stuck", can you drop or strip the magazine? If so, does the slide then close or is the slide lock in position to hold the slide back?

Also, while not the easiest in such a small area, some photos would really be helpful to see what is going on.

All is good, I loaded the mag full and worked the spring a little bit and just went through the whole mag problem free. Thanks for the quick replies!

I have a similar problem with my 18 round magazines in my Elite... WHEN attempting to activate the slide release while pressing upwards on the bottom of the magazine.

There is evidence that the breach face is catching on the right side of the magazine lip at the rear.
This does NOT happen if I insert the magazine then pull the slide back and allow it to return to battery normally.

When "stuck", if I wiggle the magazine a "smidge", the slide will go to battery as expected.

I figured it needed the spacer, so I ordered 2 from ThingVerse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2059982) ... they have not arrived yet, but it seems reasonable that the magazine is over inserted due to the release slot in the front of the magazine being slightly bigger than the catch on the frame.

Q: did I analyze the situation correctly?

FWIW, my 20 round SFX mags have always worked perfectly in my Elite-S (although I have never pushed up on them when cycling at the same time).

I do need to get those sleeves, just for aesthetics.

FWIW, I ordered 2 sleeves in black ABS, and the total amount was $13.25 including shipping.

Sleeves arrived and they work GREAT!!!
No pinching of my fingers and no malfunctions... I really like the way the 18 round magazine feels (with sleeve) while shooting.

On the right, click on "order this printed" then select one of the services. Open Ballistics seems to have folded.

There's a guy on the FB group that's developed a combo sleeve/+3 extension for the 18 round mags into the a Elite. It looks pretty good, but I haven't seen any performance reviews, yet.

I have the 20 round mag and want to replace the spring. Anyone know where to buy them and do they come as a 20 round or are the 20 round mags using an 18 round mag spring?

I just ordered one of those spacers for the 18 rd mag. Never got an email confirmation, but was charged about $10.

They are 18-round springs. Like you, I am looking to replace the springs in 4 of my mags. Mec-gar doesn't have 18 round Canik mag springs. I'm sure they are CZ but not sure which ones.

This is what I ordered from Shooters Connection www.shootersconnectionstore.com based on their recommendation. I ordered two sets of 3 springs @ $8. each set because they have a minimum $ amount to order.

EPMS Springer Precision Extra Power Magazine Spring - 11 coil for 140mm use 2 $16.00
