Anyone else taking advantage of the ammo prices being very affordable at the moment and adding a little extra to your stash? I'm not a hoarder, but with 22lr and other calibers being so cheap at the moment, I can't help but buy extra to stash away for a rainy day. After the horrific events of 2012, and the subsequent ammo scare shortly after, I've vowed never to be in that situation again. Realistically I can only afford so much, but with ammo prices so cheap, I've been adding to my humble stash. If there's ever another ammo scare, I want to be able to still enjoy shooting sports. Maybe not as often, but still be able to enjoy a range trip once in awhile and have some to spare. Aside from ammo preps, food and medical preps are also on my radar. Seems like things all around are decently priced right now.
Anyone else taking advantage of the cheap ammo prices? Another reason I'm stocking up is I plan to shoot a lot more next year, since I hope to finally enter some real competitions.
Oh yeah.....I started packing the closet floors last year. Got enough 9mm and 5.56 to last a while- and only 1- 223/5.56 rifle to shoot it in!
Also well loaded with 380- carry that most of the time. Some 40 and 45.....but I got rid of those guns.....#1 son still has a few. Fairly well loaded with 22- and only one rifle.
All my gun/ammo buying came to a screeching halt earlier this year when I got sick. If I ever get out from under this debt....I will resume. I promise.
Someone once said- "You can never have too much ammo"...... and I kinda believe that!
My spreadsheet say, "no Mas!" I picked up a case of 9mm for $0.19/rd including shipping so the cupboards are full.
Like Janik said, time to go shooting.
1 case? I go into panic mode if I'm down to 1 case in reserves. Actually I need to go look for .45 deals I think I'm down to just over a case not counting my preloaded mag's.
I've been buying enough to shoot, and just rotating that into my reserves. I still have my .22LR I bought when the 2008/2009 shortage occurred; those were the last Federal Bulk Packs I saw for several years. I've been picking up an occasional box of Mini Mags though to add to my stash...

Buy a couple of boxes of 124 gr. WWB NATO to break in the stiff RSA. Cheap, and shoots great in the Canik!
I should do spreadsheets for mine. I'm not so good at rotating, had a case of wolf .223 I pulled out a few months ago that had a $89.99 price tag on it.
But that would deprive me of pulling my ammo out and counting and sorting......
Oh I still do that once a quarter just for the fun of it.
The spreadsheet is what I reference every time I see a good sale on rounds that is so good you can't pass it up. It helps me stop the internet "got to buy it" jitters.
Oh, and in the spreadsheet, I have listed how many of each type of mag I have and how many rounds are in them. It can add up to a lot.
But that would deprive me of pulling my ammo out and counting and sorting......

Good Points... I could honestly put away 400 -500 rounds if I just load my mags up. I was thinking about downloading one of those gun apps that you can record serial numbers, pictures, accessories things like that.. Mostly just for insurance purposes...

Beware of Dragons. For you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
I also keep a basic spreadsheet for ammo on hand. Currently have 5588 rounds, 7 diff calibers. Plus 99 - 12 gauge shotgun shells
Right behind you.... 10 different calibers as well. 22lr, 32, 38spl, 380, 45acp, 9mm, 223, 7.62x39 and 7.62x54r, and 12g. Some in brass, some in steel. Some defense rounds, etc, etc...
Total just over 5k rounds as well.

SPREADSHEETS ???? But that would deprive me of pulling my ammo out and counting and sorting......
I agree. Half the fun is pulling it out every few months and taking inventory. I just put month/date on the boxes and try to shoot the oldest stuff first.
How about a spreadsheet for date ammo purchased or date manufactured?
I color-code the rounds in the spreadsheet to show which will be used for practice and shot first.
I have three + spreadsheets looking at the variables between retiring at 62, 66 1/2 and 70, factoring tax rates and which state I retire to. I'mm, err, precise.

That is sound planning imo. Your long term income and federal/state tax implications warrant such analysis and study.

"Spreadsheets"...... I only used that for budgeting. Probably need to crank that back up.

A spreadsheet for loaded mags.....that's a first I have ever heard of. But I'm sure you're not alone out there.
How about a spreadsheet for date ammo purchased or date manufactured? First in/first out sort of thing.
