Given the recent climate, and the cost of 9mm ammo, if you can find it, I decided to grab a Taurus TX22. Since it was only $240, and I have a crap ton of 22lr ammo, I decided it would be best to shoot more 22 for now. Got it the other day and took it to the range this morning for the first time. I'm really impressed. Fed it 5 different brands of ammo and it didn't choke on any of them. It's also close to the size of my TP9DA, so it makes for a nice trainer gun. Anyway, shot about 400 rounds today without any issues. Really like it so far. I've read mostly positive reviews, but some bad ones too. Apparently there was an issue with the barrels on the first units released. Anyway, TX22 seems to be solid so far. Time will tell how it holds up. But ultimately, it's nice to have a gun roughly the size of some of my Caniks to train with.

Compared to my Canik TP9DA. Pretty close in size. Grip is a little fatter.

That is a good looking weapon and am glad to hear it functions well. I will have to add it to my must look at list.

I have had the same itch as of late and have been looking at the GSG 22lr with threaded barrel. For $269, I don't think one could go wrong.

I've read some pretty negative stuff about the GSG Firefly and it's reliability. I was seriously thinking about getting one. Glad I went with Taurus though, since most of my handguns are striker fired. I still have a couple hammer fired handguns, but I decided on a striker fired 22lr for training purposes. Though I do have Kadet adapter for my CZ P07 that shoots 22, so that gives me a hammer fired option.

I would not buy the gsg its made out of pot metal and is very picky about ammo based off several people I've known who've owned them. I've a couple thousand rounds through my TX22 now much of it suppressed with out issue. I've had good luck with the m&p 22 and sr22 as well but like the feel of the Taurus better and much prefer the mag capacity out of the box with out needing to spend an extra $12 on aftermarket parts per mag to get 2 more rounds and still be at less capacity then the Taurus.

Till I bought the TX22, I've been shooting my wife's SR22 at the range. Great little gun, but I definitely like the size and feel of the TX22 better. Feels like shooting a real gun, minus the muzzle rise. Really happy it chewed through 5 different brands of ammo today without issue. My buddy's MarkIV seems to be a little picky. And he often seems to have an issue getting through a full mag with it.

Yeah I like the hand fitment much better on the taurus then the sr or m&p though the m&p might be good trainer if your carrying a shield or something. For training I think the TX and PPQ are best choices as practice stand ins, ruger mk's, buckmark, victory are great 22's if your just looking for precision pistol shooting but are all generally a bit picky on ammo(cci usually works in all) I've not found an ammo the Taurus chokes on yet I've shot several cci varieties, various federals, aguila, remingtons, winchesters, fiochi, eley

I was looking at a couple of 1911 clones in .22lr but ended up buying the TX22 because it is a better match for my 9 mm guns. Got mine 3 days ago and have only had it to the range once. Ran 4 mags, three types of ammo and no issues. Love the trigger and the fit in my hand.

@TL1000RSquid has a lot more knowledge than I do when it comes to firearms. His insight is well worth taking into consideration. Now depending on what you want a 22lr for, as mentioned, if you want precision, Ruger Mark IV or a S&W Victory may be the route to go. Otherwise something like the TX22, PPQ22 or M&P22 might be a good option.

They both had their good points, but the TX22 won due to the similarities with my other guns. Also, my wife just started shooting and the TX22 will be a great trainer for her and just a bunch of fun for me.

BTW - my TX22 will shoot Aguila Colibris with gentle manual cycling of the slide. I tried loading six in the magazine and they worked fine.

@Janik That TX22 ate everything we put in it today. It’s a nice little plinker! I made a 100 rds disappear through that thing like it was nothing. Definitely fun to shoot.

Don't know to much about the .22 1911's I know a couple people with the gsg/sig they seem to function ok little picky with ammo, the finish on them comes off pretty easy though, it'll look battleworn with in a year if you shoot often.

Most come with a threaded barrel. That's the default except in states that don't allow them. The barrel comes with a thread protector installed and an adapter to 1/2 x28 in the box.

Gotcha, just like a Walther P22. Finally had a chance to look up a video on them.

PPQ .22 is what you want if you go Walther, the zinc slide on the p22 is pretty notorious for cracking you'll find several threads on it over at rimefirecentral or silencer talk. Its also picky with ammo.

Yeah, I already have the P22. Mostly for the wife to shoot but it's fun with a suppressor. Been itching to get another .22 pistol.

Put 12 mags (192 rounds) through the TX22 yesterday, one failure to feed, one failure to fire. The round went bang when ran through a second time.

I was researching replacement sights and found a video where someone modified a Glock front sight to fit the TX22. I had a fiber optic front for a Glock in my parts bin.

Works great, easier to see than the stock sight. Took 10 minutes to install.

Just took a little filing? I have a trijicon i could use the tritiums about dead but would still be better then the oem sight.
