I do that, sort of. Any extra dots I have I cut out and put in my bag. Go the the dollar store and get paper plates and then put a dot in the middle as a target. Works just fine unless you are really looking for precision and costs, well, a dollar...

Well, there is a range in Tacoma that requires you to buy at least one of their targets when you use the range, in addition to the lane rental fee.

The Shoot-n-see targets were really for when I was using a no-cost shooting pit. I would use the Shoot-n-See targets for rifle, because they are, well, easier to see at distance. I tend to use paper plates and index cards for handgun.

I may be going to the Tacoma range soon, and will oblige their requirement to buy one target, but use the index cards for my remaining practice. I also tend to use aluminum case ammo there as well because they prefer that you do not pick up your brass there.

I wish I could access the forest shooting pit still, but they shut it down.

That's ageism! The reason that we buy RMR's is that our eyes are so bad that we can barely see the targets, let alone the holes!

(Pro tip: use one of the dots for the center of the peeled area and staple it on the backer, saving the cost of a paper plate...)

you ain't as cheap as me. i get a pack of paper plates, and draw circles with a marker pen.

I do that too. Sometime I just shoot blank plates and index cards.

Great idea! My Instructor does that for us on 3x5's. Randomly places 1, 2, or 3 anywhere on the cards.

An example of targets for drills when I was still able to shoot in the woods.

You can see holes from long range shots, then the paper plate and index cards come out for the closeup drills.

And you can see I used regular cardboard to shore up, the original pressed cardboard silhouette, which pretty much already had the head and center shredded

Right. On that day I was initially sighting in and farting around with a Kel-Tec Sub2000 at 100 yds, then shifted to 7 yd FAST drill practice, against a timer. Only goals are to keep the hits inside the card and Inside the ruffles on the paper plate, with a mag change in under 5 seconds. (From the holster, draw and fire two rounds to the 3x5 card, reload, four rounds to the paper plate. And must be able to repeat, each time under 5 seconds.) No aiming dots for that drill.

Don’t know that it would be against the rules, but...it’s a practical drill of sorts. Meant to make you focus on that initial shot, and follow up as well as DA/SA transition (if applicable, and for me it is). Also makes you work on efficient reload and transitioning to a more general target and working on recoil management, Front sight tracking, accuracy, and follow ups.

You’re not cheap until you start making your own shoot n see targets! I do the same thing with my extra dots. I like having a specific point to aim at when I’m practicing.
