Girsan .. hidden gem or stay away?

Post by Bfgloki » Thu May 16, 2019 4:36 pm

Ok Zelda3000 may be the best source but I will open this conversation to all:

Girsan 1911s. The prices are hard not to ignore and a lot of positive things said about them. Sportsman Outdoor has a sick deal:

https://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore ... /ID/217748

The RMR is not the reason but the fact it’s milled to accept opens up possibilities at the very least. Now I mainly am looking as a “buddy” gun for my father who’s eyes are definitely in need of a red dot. I think he would appreciate the 1911 platform more then anything else given his history. At that price I would buy matching set for us and make it so if we upgraded one we did both etc.

What say you good folks?

Short version, I’ve only had 3 range trips and 150 rounds through it. Zero stovepipes. A few last round failure to feed, but that a magazine issue. As good as my RIA was. I’m pleased and like you said it comes with the milled slide.

First question I would have is the RMR Mount. Other RMR choices fit? Mounting plate only accepts the optic included?

Yes,

As you can see in the photo, the RMR mounting plate incorporates a standard rail mount along with the 2 screw hole that fits the included red dot...

You are saying the mount it’s self is a picatinney Mount?

Ok so optics mounting aside... how is the fit and finish of the pistol? Good bad and ugly? I want it all. I already read about the grip retaining screws being off ball so that’s no issue...what about the rest of the stuff

Anything will work. More manufactures should do this. More versatile.

I know 2 people with 1911 Tisas the fit and finish is pretty good for the price and they function well. Some of the non1911 Tisa's can be a bit questionable like the hi power clone.

Stay FAR away from the Tisas 1911. The slide stop broke in two and the fit and finish and reliability was terrible.

I can certainly understand wanting a red dot for older eyes, but for the same price point, the SFX is impossible to beat. As an old 1911/.45 bigot, the SFX/Vortex Venom has made pistol shooting a LOT more fun again.

We didnt have this model in Turkey. Should be speacil production for USA market only. To be honest i never saw in Turkey 1911 with Red dot.
in other hands if you are asking me production quality Between Girsan and Tisas. My answer will be Tisas. Tisas produce Ar15 platform Rifles also. They are good in the MIL Standarts.

I am not expert of 1911 platforms. I didint shoot with both brand names and i never anlyze them. But according to Turkish Gunsmiths and Turkish 1911 Fan users, Most of Turkish gun owner prefer Tisas 1911 Series. It could be answer for you.

No argument. I have my Kimber. But if I was buying two and wasn't a heavy user, I would look at RIA or Girsan (based on reviews only, I haven't owned either).

And in reality, you would still get $600-700 for a brace of second tier 1911's that might have cost $900 new vs the $800 that you would get for a $900 Kimber KHX OR new.

My choice in the price point discussed here would be the RIA. I have this one. Comes with Novak sights, Combat Hammer, adjustable trigger, ambi safety and high beavertail. For $435 how could you go wrong.

If optic was a requirement then it becomes a different ballgame. I would “lean” towards an optic ready pistol instead of what “they choose” to put on it.

Also, and it’s my way of thinking, if you’re going to spend $500 +/- for a 45 just spend a little more and get the CZ97B for $655.00. No optic but one heck of a firearm. Not a 1911 style however.

Everyone has a budget and it would serve me well to do the same. Hasn’t happened yet.

Ya the optic would be for my fathers enjoyment. He is not a fan of striker fire pistols and is a little old school. The 1911 is gun porn for him or a good revolver. The 1911 allows me to go 9mm easier if he thinks 45 is above his ability these days. I am probably sticking with 45 since it will undoubtedly fill both my 1911 and 45 niche. Unless that IWI 941 suckers me in first... then it will not matter what caliber the 1911 is really.
