"Worst gun I ever bought was..."

Post by LT USN (Ret.) » Mon Dec 31, 2018 7:53 pm

OK, this was a thread I had started on the old forum and I can't find it soooooooo, let's start it again.

"Worst gun I ever bought was..." a Kel-Tec P11 which just so happen to be the first gun I ever bought.

About 12 lbs. of pull and just NASTY. It will fit into a pocket in a pair of cargo shorts but, lord have mercy, it sucked.

I still have it... It lives in the kitchen as a OMG need gun.

My worst gun was a Taurus PT-738 (my PT-111 and 845 good). I had it about a year. I had had a bad year health wise, and as a get well present- I bought this gun to cheer me up. My first outing I could not get 2 mags through it. Fail to feed, both mags, every shot. I went home and cleaned it again. When I got a little better- I tried it again...same thing. Next time I changed ammo...and again and again. I sent it to the factory. When it came back- same problem. Then sent it back to the factory- same story. The 3rd trip- I was ready to dump it. So when it came in...I loaded up 2 mags and it fired both with no issues. Yeah!....so I assume it is finally fixed. I cleaned it, boxed it up, traded it for a Beretta M9 that very day. I believe the final TOTAL round count I got through was something like 78?

Zastava M88A. It would fall apart while shooting...the locking clip would walk out and the thing would fall to pieces...ironically, my Zastava M70A is reliable as heck...ugly but reliable.
Next worst was the Hi Point C9...it was the first pistol I ever bought. I wasn't sure I would be interested in this gun-thing, so I went cheap. That thing was ugly with a capital UG, and a jam-o-matic.
I hate shooting my Kel Tech PF9 because it hurts to shoot...but reliable and small for a pocket carry...
Oh, and this gun-thing seemed to pique my interest a tad. $-)

Jennings/Cobra Industries C380. I didn't actually buy it; I got it from my former brother-in-law. No firing pin and no mags. I bought the parts, took it to the range, and rapidly gave myself a severe case of slide bite. After using their first aid kit to control the bleeding, I traded it and got $5 (the cost of the NICS check) off a SD9VE.

Mossberg 715T .22lr rifle.
At a glance it looks like an AR, but it's most definitely not. It was a Jam-o-matic. Horribly finicky on ammo; it would only cycle the slide with the most powerful hv ammo. And oh, so miserable to clean. You had to remove about 12 tiny screws to get it apart. Just an all around bad design.

Previously, it was the Springfield XD-S Mod2 .45. Couldn't hit the proverbial broadside of a barn with it (from the inside).

However, I have to admit that my super cheap Tisas 1911 .45 experiment is not going well. The latest issue is that it now cycles pretty well but it won't fire after cycling. Here is the fun part - if you recock the hammer, it will always fire after the recock. So far this has stumped Google (and me), but I am still tinkering.

Granted, I went into this not expecting much and looking for a challenge, but this is getting ridiculous.

I agree on the kel-tec. But I like my p32. Worst gun ever was a stoeger coach gun. Never was able to get it to fire.

I've bought a few I knew were basket cases going in so wont count those. Worst gun new out of the box for me was Ruger mini 14, horrible accuracy, along with some feeding issues(mag related height of the AWB so mags were hard/pricey to come by) I sold it after only 2 range trips.

Out of the box, for me it used to be my M&P's till I purchased the SCCY CPX2. Nothing but feeding issues, stove pipes and pins walking out of the frame. Figured I'd give it one more try after not shooting it for a few months, now it has extraction issues as well. Piece of garbage. I've thought about sending it in to SCCY, but it's been such a disappointment, I don't even want to waste the time calling them.

For me it was my SIG P238 Sport. Not because it was a bad gun...just TOO SMALL. I have a larger hand and it always like the compacts better. It was an impulse buy and was abandoned in the back of the safe for a few years, until I traded it in when I bought the Combat.

Smith & Wesson 59. It had a culvert for a barrel.

I've never bought a gun I didn't like, but wonder sometimes I wonder why my shield doesn't like me!

In the mid 1970's I bought a new Llama 357 mag. revolver it looked like a S&W model 27 in less than 50 rounds the frame cracked and the barrel about fell off. The dealer I bought it from had 6 of them and 4 of them were returned with cracked frames.

I almost forgot that I had a S&W 4006 (one of the first .40 cals) that I used as my EDC after getting my first CCW. It was heavy and printed huge, but that was where the technology was at that time.

The problem was that it was not accurate at all. It had a heavy pull and was one of the examples used when back in the day there were serious discussions about whether the .40 was "inherently inaccurate". I sold it and never bought another .40, but I understand that they have worked out the bugs.

I forgot to add S&W SD40VE. Bought it, put 50 rounds through it and sold it all within 48 hours. As a matter of fact I used that money to buy my first Canik. Guess you could say I went from worst to best.

I had a ParaOrdnance double stack .45. I loved the feel of the gun, I have bit hands and it filled out great. Unreliable as hell. I was lucky to get a full magazine through it. Didn't matter what ammo. This was back in the mid 90's. Maybe they got better but Ill never have one again.
