Another Failure to Eject

Post by stanj1 » Wed Feb 27, 2019 12:22 pm

Purchased my TP9sf Elite S on Sunday. I have read a lot reports concerning a failure to eject, but most seemed to be a year or so old, so I hoped that it was an issue that would have been resolved by now.

Not so on this one. I was shooting 124 grain FMJ rounds that performed flawlessly in my Glock and Walther this morning absolutely refused to eject out of the pistol on the Elite. Each and every round partially ejected into the port and set there. I would have to remove the clip, lock the slide open and then tilt the pistol until it the case fell out. This happened with every single round. I was unable to fire 2 consecutive rounds at any time out of the Elite.

Is there a fix for this rather that using heavier rounds, so I have the 124 grain I can use in two of my pistols, and something else for the Elite?

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated! Sorry for my first post being a plea for help.

Thanks, in advance.

I know the SFX requires a break-in with 124 nato.... Not sure of the Elite though.... Maybe some 147 might help.... I have both the 124 nato and the 147 here.... We can hookup soon at FGC and I can bring both with me..

EDIT TO POST.

You said 124, but was the ammo 124 nato? big difference there... Also did you clean and lube your gun before taking it to the range.... Also another suggestion, after cleaning and lubing, lock your slide back for a few days to keep some compression on the spring.....

I don't believe it was 124 nato. I had just purchased a thousand rounds a few months ago to use at the range, and had no problem in the Glock or Walther, so I hoped I was good to go.

I did clean and lube the gun before I took it to the range. I will lock the slide back when I finish cleaning it here shortly. Hopefully it will help. I was prepared to see a few ejection failures based on what I had read, but I was not prepared for 100% failure. I was so psyched for this gun to be my favorite. Really bummed at this point.

That is an issue that sounds like a return to Century. The SFX can have break in issues, but my Elite-S has been 100 pct from the first shot.

It is not normal.

Both of mine are have been flawless feeding and ejecting right out of box. Put something hot in it and see it it cycles. If it does the recoil spring is too heavy.

I'm going to do that tomorrow. If the recoil spring is too heavy, what then? Is it something I get from Canik, or somewhere else?

If it works fine with hotter ammo I'd get a hold of Century Arms and see what they want to do. Personally I wouldn't spend any money fixing a gun that has a warranty.

Agreed. That said, there's something really distasteful about having to send a brand new firearm in for repair, but I realize that sometimes s__t happens.

What brand is the 124gr you got? Likely just not hot enough as said, you can call Century and they should send you new RSA with lighter spring but I'd just get a few box's of 124gr NATO to run through it. I got my Elite shortly after they first came out and mine wouldnt function with anything less then 124gr nato for the first couple hundred rounds.

Don't know the brand, I used the last of it today and threw the boxes out. I'm going to pick up some hotter rounds and going back to the range tomorrow. We'll see how that works out.

Walmart usually has 150rd bulk pack of Winchester 124gr NATO for about $30ish after tax.

Just loosen the RSA up with a couple boxes of NATO or something similar. I run a couple boxes of NATO or Speer Lawman through every new Canik. After that, they will eat anything I feed them. The RSA's are known to be stiff in Caniks, and with weaker ammo out of the box can/will cause some issues. But seriously, a couple boxes of NATO or something similar will loosen it up and it should eat anything after that. I have 12 Caniks and they all run flawlessly. And don't be afraid to run hot ammo. Caniks are built rugged and can take the punishment. Keep us posted how it goes for you.

Just an update. I contacted Century Arms yesterday by email with my problem, and they quickly responded with a note that they were sending me the lighter weight recoil spring assembly. I'm really impressed with how quickly they responded to the issue I reported.

I'm heading to the range today with some 124 Grain NATO rounds to see how that goes. I'll update after that. Thanks to all for the responses.

Another update: What a difference a day (and some 124 grain NATO rounds) makes! Picked up 300 rounds of 124 NATO at Walmart and went to the range.

What a sweet shooting gun this thing is. Pumped 300 rounds through it without a single issue. Without a doubt the most accurate pistol I've ever shot.

Not sure I'm crazy about the sights yet, I'll give it some time.

All in all I'm very satisfied with my experience with the pistol, and with Charter Arms.

Glad it worked out for you... Sorry I couldn't meet up with you this morning.... PM me if your still open for tomorrow.... If I remember right that has the fiber optic sights.... FGC is not very well lit so the sights don't do well there.....

It does have fiber optic sights, not sold on them yet. It might be due to the lighting at FGC.

I'm out for tomorrow. Thought I was free, but my wife decided otherwise. Gotta keep her happy!

I'll try to meet up with you next time.
