Guide rod for TP9SFX

Post by GallowayPrecision » Fri Sep 14, 2018 8:46 am

Got one of the forum moderators to send us their SFX guide rod to get measurements and start making guide rods for them.

Nice!!

.. I picked up a Sig P226 stainless from Galloway per suggestion for testing in my TP9SFX but found it a bit short for non-capture spring setup and harder to get seated

So then I tried a Sig X5 Stainless Guide that works really well for un-captured springs and quick changes but I do like captured springs

Still testing these, had to fix broken firing pin first
1. Factory Top
2. Sig P226 Stainless
3. Sig X5 Stainless Heavy with Wolf 16lb - Sig P226/P220 spring
4. 1911 Commander 13lb spring
5. Wolf 17lb - Sig P226/P220 Variable spring

Looking to up date (upgrade?) the spring on my SFX for competition.
Does anyone have info on the OEM spring weight?
I dont want to test springs without a starting point.

Not to beat a dead horse.
I see lots of posts of using a G34 gen 3 guide rod with a Gen 3-Gen 4 adapter ring.
Can I just use a Gen 4 guide rod or is there a problem with diameter of the rod?
Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I'm only ten minutes away from you if you need an SFx to play with. I have two OE RSA's and a Sprinco RSA

Shoot me an email at tech@gallowayprecision.com, the guide rod the moderator sent never got here.

Got some guide rods to measure and get a SFX guide rod prototyped and tested. Always nice to meet and talk with a customer that understands springs as well.

Food for thought, If I was designing a aftermarket rod I would make it compatable with glock recoil springs, they are cheap, plentiful and come in a wide variety and you are usually able to find a spare locally or from another shooter if something were to happen. This would require you to machine the rod body a little thinner but I think would make a better product. If you are to offer springs in a kit I would suggest 13lb 15lb and 17lb I dont see a need for a stronger than stock spring if using it for competition.

Currenty I am running a 13lb IMSI glock 17/34 Spring on a NDZ Gen 3 glock Stainless rod (have adapter ring in the mail but 400rds on without and no issues) with a reduced power glock ghost plunger spring, and NDZ glock extra power striker spring. With ammo that is at/around Minor PF requirement it runs GREAT.

All our springs are ISMI that go on our recoil assemblies. Have been that way for 10 years.

I purchased the glock 34 extended tungsten guide rod. Is the gen 3 to gen 4 adapter necessary?
Can I use 1911 full size recoil Springs with it?
I also purchased a tungsten fat guide rod for my Sig p320 x5, will it work on the tp9sfx?

I'm kind of in the same boat. Trying to figure out right guide rod with reduced spring. I'd prefer uncaptured. I shoot sfx carry optics with 147 factory ammo.

Tried a Springer p320 full size with wolf 1911 full size springs I have laying around. Rod seemed too long or springs were too long. It was a hassle getting it to set right in slide so I nixed that idea. P320 rods seem too long and a pain, but the 226 rods look shorter. May have to cut coils on 1911 springs.

Ordered a sprinco q5 rod and white spring. Only issue is that after I ordered I found they had recent manufacturing issues and it may take about 2 months to get it.......

I would like to try an uncaptured glock 34 gen4 rod and buy spring sets. It seems using a 13-15 lbs recoil spring and 6.5 striker spring i should be good. I think gen3 to 4 adaptor is to account for the later gen's 2 spring guide rod, but not sure 100%.

From my research on here and elsewhere it seems a glock 34 gen4 would be fine without any adaptors. Tempted to just buy that and spring set since it's still cheaper than a sprico rod/spring. Would love similar confirmation though.

Hoping you have some good news quick @GallowayPrecision as I'm setting up a new TP9SFx for my wife to use in SSP division of IDPA running 130PF loads ..(124/147 grain loads) right now she's getting too many FTE on lighter loads, which was to be expected.

I know you guys are on it .. but any idea on an ETA? I need to get her gun setup asap and would hate to spend money on an NDZ rod and springs if you guys have what we need!

I am also seeking a proper steel guide rod and the right recoil spring for 131ish PF loads.
