My LGS had a laser 9mm bore sight so tomorrow I’ll give it a go.

As fate would have it dead batteries. So much for getting it close. Decided just to use the “eye” method. I’m just going to pencil in a morning at the range.

When first installing the Venom we took three shots at the LGS.

This morning I made a few adjustments. (Windage only)

Hey eight...

I'm curious how you like having the green fiber and red dot co-existing in your sight picture, especially outdoors???

Hey guys, Im new to RMR and dont want to drop 3 or 4 bills on one right off the bat. I was hoping you could recommend a decent RMR for under $100. 3moa preferably. There has to be a best-bang-for-the-buck option here? I dont shoot competitively, I just want to try one because my eyes are getting old. Will be using mainly for home defense and range fun.

Sometimes Wal-mart's Great Value brand is just as good as the name brand.

As the young people say, I'd like to give a shout out to Vortex for replacing my stripped Venom battery cover quickly for free (I offered to pay for a new one) and with absolutely no hassle.

I think that they may have changed the slot design, but in any case, I either never had the right screwdriver/utility tool or something was off, because the slot wore down pretty quickly. The new one went on without a scratch.

It is nice to see a company that claims to stand by their product actually stand by it, even if it was only a minor little battery cover.

I'll have the cheap ADE RD3-012 in hand next week, but it's a 6moa. Will be putting it on a range gun to see how it holds up.

I would suggest a 6moa. You can go down in brightness which somewhat reduces the size. A 3moa is just that. A 3moa.

Other professionals say the opposite, you can increase the size of the 3moa by increasing brightness, but you can't reduce the size of the 6moa smaller than it's lowest setting. But then, opinions are a dime a dozen, lol.

No kidding, where's @GlennSFX or @Weapon on this issue. When I got my Sightmark Mini Shot M-Spec I did play around with it at the range and I was able to increase brightness and make the 3moa dot pretty big. I think going forward I'm going to buy 3moa whenever I can. That being said, the ADE I just ordered is 6moa, as I didn't see a listing for 3moa.

For EDC and Competition where all your shots are less than 20 yards, I find the larger dot quicker to acquire and easier to put on the target up close. Usually the 3 moa dots and lower are the choice for rifles, obviously for long distance shooting and precision pistol shooting.

A 6 moa dot will cover 6" on your target at 100 yards. So at 10 yards your talking just over 1/2" (0.6") on your target. 20 yards it will be 1.2". So on an IDPA target where the "down 0" circle is 8"...you'll have no issue putting the dot in that area. Same for the USPSA "A Zone" which is 11" x 6".

Now my son who's 25, and has those good young eyes, prefers the smaller dot. He has a RM06 (3.5moa) on his EDC and a DPP with a 2.5 moa dot on his Comp gun. I just purchased the DPP 7.5 with the delta reticle, and it's now on the SFX. My FF3 is an 8 moa, Venom a 3 moa, RMR is a 6.5 (carry optic). The Venom is going on my AR as a backup.

It's really a personal thing.

Problem I have with any red dot is having the brightness set so it isn't "too bright" where it "starbursts". I like to have it adjusted to the lowest setting to be easily seen on target, but not where it "over powers" the sight picture on the target. I've found the "auto brightness" mode is usually 1 or 2 setting "high" for me. For the most part, I typically drop it down 1 setting. Again...this just me.

Understandable. And I don't care for the auto brightness either, I usually have it in manual mode. And good point about the brightness, though the dot size increases, it could starburst. I can't wait for Spring where I can really try it out in the sunlight and see how I work the settings.

Well said! I have a 3moa on a Glock I use for hog hunting where the shots may be out to 50 yards and I need a precise shot, same for the one on a Marlin 45-70, 3moa.
On my Competition/range handguns I like 6 or 8moa. I also use manual and go as low as I can and still pick up the dot and it does depend on the brightness of the day.
I have pretty much stayed with Vortex Venom or Bushnell FF3 and I have had no problems out of them. I like the buttons on the Bushnell a little more.

I received the ADE RD3-012 red dot today that I purchased from Amazon for around $55. It feels pretty solid. I'll get a chance to put some rounds down range tomorrow. I started a dedicated thread for this optic so I can update it as things progress. I don't have any illusions that this will hold up like a Trijicon, and I purposely purchased it for a range only gun that is fed lots of NATO ammo.
