Thinking about an SFX

Post by wbw » Mon Aug 31, 2020 10:45 am

New guy here. I currently have an Elite SC. Thinking about an SFX. The recoil spring in the SC is pretty stiff and the slide serrations are pretty sharp. Just wondering if it's the same situation on the SFX. Of course I can't just go into my LGS and check one out. Even if they had guns, odds are that they wouldn't have any Caniks. And I realize that asking a subjective question on a forum is probably not the best way to figure this out, but you're all I've got right now.

Thanks for any input.

All Caniks pretty much ship with stiff RSA's as they are designed to run 124gr NATO rounds. It will get better with use but you can also contact Century Arms and get a reduced recoil spring typically for free.

That said, if you are getting an SFX, you might as well look into playing with the many mods that are available including customizing your recoil spring and other stuff.

Welcome aboard the forum.

To me , the slide serrations are not sharp. I use my SFx as a comp firearm and have never had an issue.

There is no "thinking about getting an SFX". There is only "done bought an SFX". If you don't believe me, who can you believe?

That was my strategy. I bought the first SFx I ever saw (that didn't include the red dot). Didn't hurt that I got a crazy good deal either.
Followed up just over 2 1/2 years later with the Sub Elite.

Slide serrations are not sharp. No problem there. My mid-2017 SFx had a tight recoil spring. Broke it in with the WWB NATO ammo, now it shoots everything, including Federal 115 bulk, and my 124gr light-loaded reloads perfectly. It's been kept 100% factory, no need for modifications.

My Sub Elite, on the other hand, has eaten everything I've fed it so far. No issues to report yet.

(*) Buy a couple of boxes of 124 gr. WWB NATO to break in the stiff RSA. Cheap, and shoots great in the Canik! (*)

I've decided to go for the SFX, but of course my LGS doesn't have one, can't find one and can't order one. I may end up with an auction deal which will cost me, but at least I'll be able to get one this year.

Hi wbw,

Grab-A-Gun has the Black Out version for $529.
You won't have any problems with the sharpness of the slide cuts.

I'm the OP. Just an update. I made my move yesterday. I won an TP9SFx on the big auction sight . I got it at a decent price, but with shipping and transfer fee, it's no bargain. But I wanted one sooner than later. It's possible that I could have it by the end of the week, but more likely next week. Looking forward to it.

I'm surprised how well it shoots. My times are faster shooting steel targets vs my Glock 34. If you're a lefty it is difficult to switch the mag release, due to a super stiff spring, otherwise simple to break down and clean. The trigger has a nice short reset and for me the grip size is fine. Go for it.

Good choice. My son bought a SFX, I bought one as soon as I found one in stock locally. I quickly followed up by purchasing an Elite SC for concealed carry use.

Just picked up a sfx here in Alabama. Very hard to find and bought the one with the Venom included. Manufactured 12-17, but had to go for it bc worried about the election and availability . Was looking at the Walther Q5 but got the sfx for the same price $800 complete with red dot and free range time. It came with a weird holster with a low retention button. I am going to email them and ask for a replacement and a light recoil spring. Primary use is for idpa and competition. My first Canik excited to shoot it, need to sight in red dot first.
