Which TP9 Would Be the Best All-Around Choice.

I just looked at the Canik TP9 in my local guns store a few days ago. I was impressed but I am pretty unfamiliar with the brand itself. The model I looked at was the blue one with the silver barrel. When I came home to study up on the TP9 I learned that there were lots of different models with different barrel lengths and so forth. So, my question is, which model might be considered the best all-around version of the TP9?

I read around on the internet as well. I learned that the TP9 has been upgraded in the last few years so my second question is whether or not all of the current guns that are available upgraded to the latest specs?

Thanks in advance for any help that anyone can provide.

Boy, that is tough to answer...which one of your children do you love most? Which yahoo is the biggest yahoo in this forum? Both difficult questions to answer.

But really, it depends what you wish to do. Home defense? CC? competition?

I know you said "all-around". If only one, and "one for all seasons", I would go with the Canik Elite. The base Elite is affordable, medium size, and a great shooter. Some CC, and many here have described it as a tack driver. It will work for home defense. It is high quality and has a great trigger out of the box. It is better than most guns twice its price...do I hear three times? Thus, there, and that is my vote.

All around I'd say Elite as well. However if all around doesn't include using it as a carry weapon then I'd say SFX. Elite Combat could also be in the running if all around were to include being a suppressor host.

Lucid, but weird.

I concur with the biggest yahoo in the forum.

Before I bought mine, I had same question. But I was not looking for a CC (quite happy with my Taurus PT111G2). So answer for me was SFL. Best junction of price/features and extra long barrel is a good bonus.

However, I was looking for potential CC application - Elite would have been an answer.

Carry, defense - Elite (or Elite-S if interested in the extra safety of the swivel trigger safety), hands down a winner of a gun! I can only echo the others comments: Fits like a glove, great shooter, all the right options - especially the full-ambi options for us lefties. I feel guilty when I go to the range and shoot my other guns, though very close second for me is my DA
The one thing I am upgrading based on my use of the Elite as a defense gun are the sights. Ordering "Night Fision Perfect Dot Tritium" sights as my replacement.

Have a blast!

Really depends on intended purpose. I'm still a fan of DA/SA handguns, so for me the best all around is the V2 or DA. They are double/single action striker fired. But, the absolute best Canik I own would be the Elite Combat. The Elite is also phenomenal, but I like the flat trigger and flared magwell on the Elite Combat. Both are laser beams, but the Elite Combat Edges out the Elite. If I was told I could only keep one of my Caniks, it would be the Elite Combat. But for daily carry and an all around gun, I stick with the V2 and DA. Again, I'm a fan of DA/SA handguns, grew up with them and they are "familiar" to me.

Before you pick a gun I suggest you check out red dot sights and determine if you might get one sometime in the future. If there is any chance you might go for a red dot sight, them make sure the P9 you choose has the red dot cut in the slide. For everything but carry, you can't go wrong with the P9-SFx.

I agree that for most- the choice would be the Elite. I have one and I really like it. It is my #2 choice.

However.........if you are not used to single action striker fired guns with very light triggers...the Elite can be the wrong gun if in the wrong hands!
My favorite is the DA. It still has a light single action trigger-BUT.....also has a decocker and can be carried in double action mode- which gives some degree of safety against an unintended trigger pull. The DA is my favorite striker-fired gun over ALL others.

Now, that said: Canik also makes hammer fired guns. They are imported by Tristar. I have the C-100 which is a clone of the CZ-75C. It has an acceptible da/sa trigger, but with an $8 spring change- it can have a perfect da/sa trigger. The C-100 is an exceptional hammer fired pistol.

Based on your recommendation, I need to consider adding a DA to my stable.

I love mine. The SA Trigger is really really nice, just like all the rest of the TP9 lineup, but has the added DA trigger if you plan on carrying it.

I have three DA's and three V2's, awesome guns. And the reduced power spring kit from Galloway Precision makes a difference in double action. However, given time, the trigger also smooths out and the trigger pull with lighten on it's own. Seems like it took me a couple thousand rounds though.

I only have 6 Caniks, and if I remember correctly, you have twice that number. The way I see it, as we quickly move toward Socialism, you are a "Have", and I am a "Have Less"....thus you should send me 3 of yours so we can be equal. It is only fair. :-BD

My first Canik is going to be the TP9 SFX. I have CCW's. Going to a full size this time. Recently saw a (Guns and Ammo??) program featuring the Canik TP( SFX that really caught my attention. Going to give one a try.

Answers, answers, answers. Many different answers but the only answer that matters resides within you, bkelly. If there was a best all around we wouldn't have so many. Search your feelings. Also, it's the Executive.
