Shot the Elite Combat and SF Together

Post by jnichols2 » Sat Dec 08, 2018 5:53 pm

It's been two weeks since I bought the TP9 SF. My, how time flies.

I now have three Caniks, and wanted to compare the SF and Elite Combat.
On the outside, the two pistols do have a common size and feel.
However, the Elite has a better trigger and a more polished feel.
I'm aware that the two guns are different inside.

The only issue the Elite Combat had at the first range session was that 115 grain ammo didn't lock back on last round.
I had the Elite slide locked back for 10 days in anticipation of this trip.
After 30 124 grain rounds, the Elite was, indeed, locking back for 115 grain ammo.
I don't count that as a problem. It's a break-in thing for many of the newer 9mm pistols.

The SF went right through 124, and then started running 115 grain with no issues.

I tried some Hornady Critical Defense rounds, and ran into a glitch.
Instead of locking back on the last round, it had a StovePipe. I put a couple more rounds in, and it did the same thing.

When I checked the other four magazines with me, no problems.
By now, my shoulder and back were bothering me. I decided to make that magazine a point to check at next range.
Right now, I'm thinking magazine issue. I don't think anything's wrong with the gun.
I'll be able to check it in the other guns, as it's 18 rounds and will fit.

I wrote in another thread that the TP9 SFx passed it's first range with no problems of any kind. Canik has passed three guns with very few minor issues. I'm pretty happy with performance so far.

The Elite Combat has 13.5mm x 1 LH threads on the barrel. That's an extra $70 for adaptors when my suppressor gets out of jail. Century has a 1/2 x 28 barrel for the SF in the online store. I think I'll ask what a 1/2 x 28 costs for the Elite Combat.

Time to close, I've already made this too long.

Thanks for the range report. Keep us posted how they continue to perform for you.

I have just gotten around to following up on the TP9 SF stovepiping the last round with Hornady Critical Defense.
As I said before, it only seemed to happen with one magazine.

I spent a week in ICU with a stomach ulcer that opened an artery.
I went Code Blue and had to be rescuscitated. So now I'm getting strong enough to get back to the range.

I just loaded the culprit magazine with 124 grain NATO rounds to help it set. I also locked the slide back.
When I'm ready, I'll run another 100 NATO rounds through it.

I kinda think that will work. If not, I'll try another type of defense ammo.

From the looks of it glad to see you are well enough to post and shoot!

First- glad you made it through.....ICU is not a party place.

On the ammo.....several of my 380's stumble on Critical defense. But they all do fine on Gold Dot and Rem 88jhp.
Not tried it in my 9's.

If a change in ammo is called for, Gold Dot is a good choice.

It is one tough hombre when a trip to ICU and Code Blue are just afterthoughts to a range discussion...I pick you to be on my side when TSHTF.

Thanks. But having 8 pints of blood doesn't make you feel tough.
They don't "fill you up" any more. Getting blood has become pretty risky nowadays.

They top you up to 7 pints, and let your body build the rest.
But I'm getting there. Getting back into life is part of it.

Re: Shot the Elite Combat and SF Together UPDATE

Post by jnichols2 » Sun Jan 13, 2019 4:11 pm

I haven't updated my thread in about three weeks. So I felt it was past time.

I reached the point that I was ready to start shooting again. So I got ready for Monday.

I bought a 50 round pack of Federal Premium Law Enforcement Tactical HST, 124 grain +p, 1200 FPS.
Except for the hollow nose, they are the same spcc as the WWB 124 grain NATO rounds.

I came down with a cough Friday, so I'm waiting to see how I feel tomorrow.
It's amazing what it takes to come back from losing 8 plus pints of blood.
But, except for the cough, I don't feel too bad right now. I'll see tomorrow.

My problem 36 days ago was one magazine was getting a stovepipe on the last round.
I was using Hornady Critical Defense 115 grain.
My best guess is the hotter Federal HST will work out fine.
If so, I may just stay with it. The Critical Defense is made for short barrel pistols.

When I get that issue solved, all three of my Canics (SFx, Elite Combat, and SF) will be good to go.

Glad your on the mend. Serious stuff which gives you a different outlook on things huh?

Yes, medical issues change your life and everything else. I was a caregiver, not so much the last month, for 3 straight years with my girlfriend. Basically taking care of her, meds, appointments, house, shopping and on and on. No time for anything else. Period. (6770 miles in appointments and hospital trips last year)

My girlfriend was in kidney failure and we did PD dialysis and never ending health issues. (Broken foot, virus, flu, infection.) I say “was” as she received a kidney transplant December 14, 2018. Like you, slowly getting better. For her and for me.

Thank you for your thoughts, and wishing your girlfriend a speedy and full recovery.

My issue was a stomach ulcer that rubbed through an artery.
On my second night, I started bleeding again, and it took me out.
Luckily, I realized something bad was happening, didn't know then I was bleeding, and hit the call button.
The team showed up and resuscicated me.

It's been 32 days, with no further bleeding. They say it wasn't the artery the second time.
My Doc says that I'm out of the woods now, and building my blood back up.

Yes, everything looks different now.

Good deal! Yeah, that’s a lot of blood. A lot!

“Tomorrow is promised to no one.”

Never forgot that.
