Range Day 03-29-20

Post by Janik » Sun Mar 29, 2020 10:39 am

Got some "trigger therapy" this morning with the SFx, Elite Combat, DA, V2, SC and my P07 with the Kadet slide so I could burn up some 22lr. @Smitty504 met me at the range here in Iowa, and we blasted some steel. Nothing new and exciting to report. I'm still primarily using the ProMag's and still no issues. It's been a few months now and thousands of rounds. I also shot some steel cased ammo mixed with brass. I know some people say to not shoot steel before brass, as it can cause jamming issues. I've never experienced that, and haven't ever experienced any issues mixing steel and brass. On top of it, the guns I take to the range haven't been cleaned in a few range sessions. Of course, my carry guns get cleaned after every range trip.

All the guns ran great, and I still need to get a red dot for my SC. Probably going to get the Holosun 407k, but I'm not 100% committed yet. We will see how the reviews go once it actually gets released. As for the range today, it's a little disappointing how trashed it is. Really wish people would pick up after themselves.

A few guns we took to the range.

We set up our steel targets as usual. We also put a small plate out at the berm which I believe is 75 yards. I was able to tag the 9x12 plate with the SFx and red dot, as well as with my Elite Combat and Night Fision sights. As you can see, people are leaving a lot of trash at the range.

Anyway, another good morning at the range. A bit cold, windy and rainy, but it's always fun to put some rounds down range.

Glad y'all had a good time!

My range opens at noon on Sunday and I plan to be there today. Going to take my 22-250, 300 win mag, SR9C, SFx and my XDm 10mm. Should be a fun afternoon.

Thanks. The one we go to is a public use range so it's open sun up to sun down. Unfortunately since it's a free range, people trash it. We also took some AR's and a bolt rifle for some longer range plinking. Have to mix it up since ammo is a little scarce right now.

I had a great time out there today and plan to join you guys more often. That was actually my first time shooting steel targets and just the reactive noise of hitting the target is 100x more pleasurable than shooting at paper. Thanks Janik for letting me shoot your lineup of Caniks. Love the outdoor range but I wish people would pick up after themselves. Overall great experience today.

I definitely agree. Steel is just a lot more fun. I'm also not a bullseye shooter, so steel is better for combat shooting. Will be adding more steel targets soon to make it more challenging. Glad you were able to make it out.
