Range Report Feb 09, 2020

Post by Janik » Sun Feb 09, 2020 9:46 am

Got some "trigger therapy" this chilly Iowa morning. It wasn't too bad till the freezing rain started coming down. Took the Canik TP9 Elite Combat, Elite S, Elite SC, DA and V2 to the range this morning. We got our steel targets set up and had some fun. As usual, everything ran flawlessly with a variety of ammo. I managed to put about 300 rounds down range before packing it up since my fingers were frozen. Today's main mission though was to try out the mag sleeves for the SC. I received one for 15 round mags, and one for 18. They worked out great and fit the hand nicely. Though I don't ever see myself carrying the SC in this configuration, it's nice to have options. And what I like about the mag sleeve is I can still use the mags in my other guns. I like base plate extensions, but I prefer the sleeves if it's a gun I don't shoot a ton. The sleeves are quick to put on and off, and I can continue to use the mags across the platform. The Promags are still going strong, no issues yet. And, the cheap ADE atop my EC is still functioning without issue or loss of calibration. Really surprised how well it's held up, especially with all the NATO ammo I shoot. It's still just a range use only red dot, I'd never trust my life to it.

Anyway, another good day at the range. At least until the freezing rain started coming down. Sadly, the public range I go to is getting pretty trashed. I wish people would be more considerate.

Elite SC pictured with the 15 and 18 round mag extensions. I'll do a separate write up specifically for the mag sleeves in another thread.

Today at the range (half price range fees on Monday!):

10 yards, first 20 round mag of the day out of the SFx. The X ring is 2.2" x 3". I dropped a few but not too bad.

BTW, I hate shooting irons at the Birchwood adhesive splatter targets as you can't get a good sight picture with black sights on a black target. These bright green adhesive 5" targets aren't splatter but still pretty easy to see your hits:
