Finally! Range time!

Post by Lgaam » Tue Dec 04, 2018 10:36 pm

First trip to the range in way too long. I had to burn a vacation day to do it.
I started the day with 150 rounds through the AR. Good time, but I couldn't recover much of my brass. Hooray for over gassed carbines.
Next came the SD9VE on it's first range trip since the Apex trigger and polish job. It was like a whole new pistol. 105 rounds, a mix of S&B 115gr and Aguilla 124gr. Two light strikes on the S&B. I actually managed 38/50 on the Dot Torture at 7 yards (minimum range here).

Last came my Elite. After driving tacks with the SD (I know, right?), I was either flinching, pushing right, or both. Slow down, breathe... Get good hits. Snap shots or double taps not so much. I'm not even going to discuss the Dot Torture I attempted.

It's surprising how many good "value" guns (~$300) there are out there. The Canik and SAR family, Ruger 9E, Arcus 98 DAC, and the SD9VE. I have two of the SD9VEs and put the Apex trigger kits on them...reliable and surprisingly accurate. I need to bring them out for a spin again...it's been awhile.

I was ready to sell the SD9 before the trigger. The Olight Mini also made a difference, moreso on the SD9 than my Elite. Now I'm tempted to find a holster for it. I did get the two light strikes, though. Maybe put the original striker spring back in?

Awsome baby! time well spent. try the elite first then your modified SDVE and compare what happened the other day.

That's the plan. I've spent months using the SD9VE for dry fire drills instead of taking the Elite out of service (unload both mags, install the barrel block and the mag blocks) to practice with it. I'm hoping Santa is bringing the extra mags
