How is everyone’s job status

Post by Tejas Products » Sun Mar 22, 2020 7:34 pm

Is everyone still working?

My wife works for a hospital corporation in the legal department. Fortunately she is able to do her job from home and has been for the last week. My twin boys while employed at a UPS store have voluntarily taken a unpaid leave of absence. They still live with us so financially ok. My business seems to still doing ok. I have seen a trend though in my product sales. My home decor products have gone down a bit but my firearm accessories have gone up so right now I’m about the same.

Retired and financially in good shape. I feel for the normal work force and know many will suffer. Wife and I are isolated more or less at the house. We will help out as many as we can, when we can.

I'm good for the foreseeable future as I work for a small arm of a giant multi-national corporation. 80+% of us are working from home with our company laptops and calls forwarded to cell phones.

Wife's situation, on the other hand is not so good. Her employer just flat closed up. They might reopen when this calms, they might never reopen. I give it 50/50 at best.

Working for the IT department of a midstream company. As of this week, will be working from home. Unfortunately, my company wasn't been doing well financially BEFORE the oil price dropped and COVID hit, so not sure what to expect from this.

Our physical operation is essentially shut down, but the facilities still need to be secured. We've split our department into 3 teams, 5 on, 10 off. We're salaried, so we're still getting paid, at least for the foreseeable future. I'm idle but subject to call until 01 April.

Both of my wife’s jobs closed with pay, and 1 of my 2 closed with pay, my main one is a moonshine distillery, I run the distribution warehouse and am still pushing product out the doors while they keep me open and trucks are running. We shall see how long it lasts though with 80% of the other businesses in my area closing up.

I was told we're an essential service and will not be closing even if the state shuts down. Friday we actually rented out some campers to an energy company in Illinois for 3 months that's going on lock down. I guess they are keeping essential personnel on site. Also, several RV dealerships are shipping hundreds of campers to makeshift quarantine sites in the country. Anyway, since several people live in campers, they are keep us technicians in the shop to work on them. Sales is still moving a few, but not many. Other than the rentals to the energy company, several customers have canceled renting a camper. As for the fire department, we're still running 24/7 as expected. So either way, I'm working no matter what. EMS calls are up with everyone freaking out thinking they have Covid19 whenever they sneeze.

I can't complain, I'm a retired firefighter, collecting a great pension, the wife is a Critical Care RN, unfortunately she is stuck on OT a lot due to virus.

Only thing I'm pissed about is my state closed all gyms down, now have to figure out another workout plan..

Have worked from home for 10 years for my company in an IT implementations position, so nothing new to me - and safe employment for foreseeable future. My daughter will be working in my home office with me for the second straight week, for her job. Damn wife's company still doesn't have their shit together, so she still needs to go in. Worries the friggin' hell out of me all day long.

Retired SEP 2019 and financially in good shape.

Most of my friends work for the feds so they are still getting paid. Say what you want about our gov't, the paid and benefits are great.

Mrs. has always been a "stay-at-home-mom" so no impact there.

Been working from home for decades. They recently opened a corporate office nearby and although I actually have an assigned cube now I have never sat in it and it's shut down now anyway.

I told the wife that I expect that we will get furloughed if this runs a few more months, but as of now, the conference calls are running hot and heavy so staying busy. As before, if I do get laid off, I don't think that I will care as I am close enough to retirement age anyway. The wife is an EICU nurse and although she works remote from the hospital, doctors and staff are constantly rotating in and out of her office coming directly from ICU rounds, so there's that to worry about.

I’m not working,I haven’t worked since mid February.

Has a part time job at a local gun range, but it got be not worth the effort.

When the virus quarantine subsides, I’ll go find a job.

Just doing some side work, fixing old Vintage dirt bikes for now.

I work in the auto industry, which is all but shut. I am forced to take vacation one of the next two weeks, and after that, who knows? I expect more forced time off and probably a pay cut during this period. My wife is an RN at a local hospital, and believe it or not, was laid off today. She works in the surgery center, and with no surgeries, she is not needed...you would think they could find something for an RN to do, but I guess they are not essential. (...he says bitterly...)
