Did something today I've never done before!

Post by higgybaby » Sat Feb 09, 2019 2:31 pm

I cut grass in February!
We have had so much rain and warm temps that the clover and weeds took over my yard. All my neighbors were out cutting today also.

My yard needs to be cut too, but with all the rain we've had lately still waiting for certain areas of the yard to firm up enough so the tractor doesnt tear it up. I'll see how it looks tomorrow when its warmer

Well, here, it's been in the mid/low thirties all day, and intermittent drizzling rain. Last night, we had sleet, and there is still some unmelted in places. Had a couple of days in the upper seventies earlier this week, but nothing growing yet.

I'm currently working on installing a new shower valve in the guest bathroom, so I've been able to keep inside for most of the day. Just the occasional unpleasant trip out to the shed to get more tools.

(*) Buy a couple of boxes of 124 gr. WWB NATO to break in the stiff RSA. Cheap, and shoots great in the Canik! (*)

I've got stinging nettles making a comeback in the backyard. If I can get a relatively dry day this weekend, the weed control needs to go down.

My grass, such as it is, hasn't started to come back, so I might just drop the deck and try to get a close mow on the weeds.

In Miami, I'd already have milorganite and Scotts Southern Lawn down just to keep the fire ants from getting a beachhead in the yard.

Thick sheet of ice over the snow...yesterday was -4F, today is a heat wave in the 20's. looking at snow in the next few days...a long way from mowing grass.

They're not as bad here in Central Florida. The 3 year old learned about fire ant hills this summer.... I can still remember the floating rafts of fire ants when the PE field would get flooded during the afternoon storms.

Rain today. No mowing or weed killing today.

Well, if I can't have the fun of mowing the grass, the day wasn't a total bummer...I had fun chipping the dog poo from the ice in the back yard.

Yes, thanks...I would rather deal with Winter in Wis than another week in Delhi, India.

I am just a bit south of Badger and they are calling for 4-10 inches of snow. 4 towards the southern boarder of WI 10 going north. Near Badgerboy it might be 12 inches.

Spot on...we are probably 10-12" now with more coming. Love my Ariens snowblower almost as much as my Canik pistols. (see how I made the post relevant?)

This time of year? The Ariens. But the snowblower doesn't see much use in July...mostly.
