Re: 3 Gun Choice To Survive The Apocalypse

Well I only have three unlike most of you guys on here. But I have a custom AR-15 built for medium distance. My recently purchased tp9sfx blackout edition and my Glock 32 .357 as my last resort backup due to round scarcity. Haven’t even had a chance to run the Canik at the range. Trying to see if I can but I just think it’s wiser to preserve ammo with it being so hard to get your hands on in my area. Hope I get my deliveries in case this shutdown becomes a national mandate. Once we get through this my approach to this is going to change. I’d rather people think I’m some wack job then experience this caught with my pets down feeling I’m going through. Be safe out there man and defend those who need your help(as much as your instincts will permit). You guys have all this knowledge for a reason! Thanks for all the tips I’ve picked up in my short time on here as well

AR, AK, Glock 19 (close 3rd 870). Reason being parts, ammo and probably many laying on the ground.

Was considering my Keltec PMR30...loaded and with two extra mags brings 90 rounds to the party...some may think 22 WinMag too light, but it barks like a big dog and carries enough bite for most needs.

Never held one but what does the grip feel like? The pictures make it look like the geometry is just off.

I agree with .22 magnum with a lot of rounds on target. I suggested it to a friend for his wife but again, the grip looked funky for smaller hands so she would have to try it.

It is different for sure...Something you need to get used to, but I am surprised how accurate it is. Regarding accuracy, the gun is limited by me, not the other way around. It is very light, so it almost feels "toy like", which is why I'm sure many don't consider it a serious firearm. It is fun to shoot, and with prices below $400, I recommend those with disposable income to buy one.

I did have some problems with jamming, but mine is several years old, and I expect KelTec has improved on reliability. I found that the magazine needs to be tight up into the pistol...any "slop" caused problems. I saw online where somebody put a small bead of epoxy along the magazine seating ridge, making the magazine fit tighter...this fixed my problem as well. It is not easy to fill the magazine beyond 25 rounds, but it can be done with effort and some care. The long, narrow 22Mag rounds don't want to behave and nest well in the mag sometimes, so it takes some practice to make it happen.

In general, a fun and interesting machine, but it needs some attention to make it fun...my first few trials were frustrating.

And you get the added bonus of the oddball cartridge. There was always .22 Magnum around last time.

Someone give me an idea of recoil... I have several regular .22LR but they are so anemic that I don't really bother with them much.. Sometimes I want something to plink with that is more than 22 but a lot less than 9mm.....

One a scale of 1 to 10, with 22LR being 1 and 9mm being a 10, where would you put the 22 magnum....

3-4 in my opinion. I have a 9-shot SA-DA revolver and it shoots really nice.

Obviously, it depends on the gun...but I would agree with LT USN (I hate it when that happens). The KelTec PMR30 is very light, so I would say a 4. Maybe a 4.38, but I have OCD sometimes...

Not at all my friend...we have a good time poking at each other. I read and hear that Louisiana may be a hot spot for the virus soon. Please be safe...remember, you are one of the older (and I mean old...) folks that are most at risk. Whoops, there I go again...

Ok you two. Get a room. 😉

Thanks though, 4+ is better than what I thought it would be. Been interested in both the PMR and CMR as a package.

My only .22 mag is a Cobra derringer, and recoil is negligible. My personal thought, if you are going to go plinking, might as well use 9mm. Cheap 115 is about the same price for a box of .22 mag. A lot more satisfying too. If you already reload, there's potential for additional savings there too.

(*) Buy a couple of boxes of 124 gr. WWB NATO to break in the stiff RSA. Cheap, and shoots great in the Canik! (*)

You’re probably right. Really just looking for an excuse to try a new caliber. Was at the range on Thursday and after around 50 shots with my .22 I put it away. Just boring.

Met a vendor at a gun show who had a PMR30 on his hip. Said he gave up wearing a heavy sidearm in favor of 30 handy rounds of 22 WMR.

This is an interesting animal...never seen this before. Could be an effective "get off me" gun. Double shot of .22Mag in a single pull will get somebody's attention.
