135gr Acme plated bullet load data/experience

Post by colonel00 » Mon Jun 17, 2019 1:09 am

So several months back I picked up some acme bullets to try out when they had a sale running. In the order I figured I'd try their 135 grain round nose. Anybody loaded these, especially for an SFX. Doing some preliminary searches of the web isn't really bringing up a ton of info. I can find on Hodgdon's site some data that I might start with. Just figured I'd ask here to see if anyone had any experience with these. Thanks

I have loaded the 135 gr bullets from Acme,Bayou and SNS, I find them a good compromise between the 125 and 147 gr and have a little more oomph for knocking down steel.
I have found 4.0 of W231/HP38 at 1.100 will give me a power factor of 132 average . Comfortable and accurate bullets.

I shoot a lot of CZ's which usually need a shorter OAL to function properly.

I have more or less moved mostly to 125gr plated bullets and that is all I have shot in my SFX and Elite. After shooting many thousands of coated bullets I have come to realize while they smoke less than lead, they still smoke and this can be a hindrence in competition under some conditions.

Cool. As mentioned, I looked at the Hodgdon site but with all of the powder options, you can quickly get sucked down the rabbit hole. I'll give Titegroup a try first.

Did you find a preference for any specific primers?

I've shot thousands of 135 grain coated bullets. Both Black Bullets and ACME bullets. My load used 3.6 grains of Sport Pistol with Winchester small pistol primers. Sport Pistol is my go to powder for 9mm in my TP9sfx I use to shoot Carry Optics and my 40 S&W I shoot in Limited division of USPSA. Data for this powder can be found on Alliant's website.

Another great accurate well-made bullet is made by Frontier, available through Brownells. I've shot thousands of these bullets and never had a problem and they are very accurate.
