Favorite gun you’ve owned?

Post by TacoTyrant » Tue Dec 24, 2019 9:51 pm

With all the gun smart folks on here I thought I’d ask what y’all all time favorite gun is. Mine is a Taurus model 72 pump .22 mag in short stainless. I bought this lil guy about 15 years ago and I love this gun. it rides with me in my truck everywhere I go and has shot many critters. Please share your favorites.

The used Glenfield Model 25 .22 that my Dad brought home when I was around 12. It became mine when they retired and downsized (and no one else in the family wanted it) and is now my son's.

How do you choose your favorite child? I will try...for rifle, my Henry Golden Boy, .22 WinMag. For pistol, I have to go with the S&W .357 Magnum revolver, service pistol of my friend who passed.

It used to be my Sig P226, But now it’s my Canik TP9SFX!

I shoot it better then I shot the Sig & that’s saying a lot.

Difficult choice. My SAR1 and 2 have both never let me down, been run and gunned through wet muddy classes with out a hiccup. Handguns cant decide ts2, tp9sa are like lasers and been 100% reliable, G19 and cz75 has been beat and abused and kept running, grandfathers 1911 that he carried through ww2 has most sentimental value.

What a hard question to answer, handgun probably either my father's 5 screw 44 mag Smith or original A Swenson 1911. Probably the 44.
Carbine my new 8" 9mm love shooting that
Shotgun Dad's 12 ga sxs Parker (it has a very long story with it)
Rifle my 1st custom SG&Y 6mm Rem

Sig Saur 229 in .40 caliber. I shot an armed robbery suspect of a Subway restaurant with mine. Bought the gun from my department when they turned them in for a Glock contract. I really like my 4" Python in blue.

My old long time favorite had been an older Sig 228 9mm. Still a sweet shooter and easy carry.
2 years ago I got my first Canik- the DA. Man what a shooter-I actually bought a 2nd one before I fired the first one. It had moved to the top shelf with the Sig.
Then I bought a Tristar C-100 (Canik)....wow!...another top shelf winner-
Then I bought an Elite- and as expected its awesome....

But favorite?.....still probably the Sig, with the C-100 next and then the DA. These are definitely my favorites.

Now.....what do I carry most of the time? Bersa Thunder 380. Why? -Weight, size, and capacity make it just too easy to carry. I have 5 of these in 3 different models. Locally I'll have a Bersa on my side....but if I go into town or on a trip...I'll have one of the Caniks.

I've already weighed in on my choices, but there is always one or two that fall in the category of guilty pleasure or embarrassed-to-admit-out-loud...Bulgarian Arcus 98DAC...solid steel, tank-like, value Hi Power clone. I would pick up another if I could find one...

A Smith & Wesson 617 with 4” barrel. It was the most accurate 22LR I ever owned. It was so accurate a friend offered me $100 more than I paid for it so it’s gone. It was also a pre-lock model, I’d give a lot to get it back!

My favorite was my 375 H&H magnum. It was the first rifle I built when I started my shop in Alaska. I bought a 300 Weatherby and tossed everything but the action. Paul Marquort barreled the action and while it was in Arizona I had a recoil reducer cut into the barrel end. The stock was walnut and I checkered it with a full wraparound point pattern. That gun would shoot 1/2" groups all day long. I really liked the finished gun except for the Weatherby action. I regretted that I didn't use a Pre-64 Winchester action. That was a big mistake.

Ruger Mark II, after you master the take-down and reassemble for cleaning it is a pleasure to use.

So, my favorite is the Mark One Index Thumb combo. As a kid, there was a RR spur behind our house going into the military base we lived near. I remember having shoot-outs with the engineers as they scooted by.

Favorite pistol was a Russian IZH I shot with in a Bullseye league. Ugly as sin, rough as a split log, and an absolute tack driver. I sold it off when I needed some money and I regret that to a degree (although I’d do it again in the same circumstances). I’ve looked off and on for another...someday.

Favorite fun gun: Mossberg Shockwave .410. Just a blast to shoot.
