Nice day at the range - with a couple obscure pieces

Post by Badgerboy » Sat Jun 08, 2019 3:28 pm

Beautiful sunny day in Wisconsin. Ran a couple hundred rounds through my Kel Tec PMR30 and Zastava M70A.

The PMR30 ran great and is fun to shoot. It spits .22 Win Mag, and can hold 30 rounds in each magazine. It barks like a big dog, but is light and surprisingly accurate. I was hitting 6" steel plates at 30 yards...which is good for me. It's been a while since I ran the Kel Tec and I forgot how fun it is.

The Zastava 9mm also ran flawlessly. Heavy steel ugly Bulgarian beast that can be used for a hammer when you run out of ammo. Not as accurate as the Kel Tec, but not too bad...the weakness is the operator, not the machine.

Great day in the **== :ymapplause:

Very cool, everytime I see a good deal on the PMR I consider buying one. Have you had any issues with feeding/mags or anything? The M70A is the 9mm Tok or am I thinking of a different Zastava? Got a real Tok more interested in a 7.62x25 pistol thats not a Tok then one in a different caliber :)

My problem is the price of the ammunition.

$9-10 a box isnt to bad, a little more then 9mm, still cheaper to shoot then several other pistols.

Yep to all. The .22 magnum is only slightly more expensive than 9mm. I used to have problems with feeding, but they seem to be in the past now...maybe a combination of break-in, more experience loading the mags (the narrow and long win mag ammo can be a bit sensitive to double stack in the magazine)...and I came across a discussion on line where a guy found that unless the magazines load up tight in the gun, FTLs happen often. I found this to be true. A bead of glue on the bottom of the ledge on the magazine snugs the magazine up tight...no more issues for me. It is a fun gun to run...but at 30 rounds per magazine, the fun can get expensive quickly. Before you know it, 90 rounds are down range, and its time to load up again...

The Zastava is indeed the Tok type and I like the 9mm, if only to keep the different types of ammo to a reasonable number. It's a cheap gun, but much better than a Hi Point. Magazines are hard to find, but you can do a simple alteration to a P1/P38 Walther mag and it will work.

Oh, that’s not bad. I was seeing like .23 per round. I won’t pay more than.16 for 9mm

Haven't even checked online prices but I was looking at ammo yesterday in Academy and remember seeing Fiochi, cci, Federal, and Aguila for $9-11 a box, so online prices are probably pretty comparable to 9mm prices. My fear in buying one isnt the ammo price its im going to want a rifle to go along with it :)

While Kel Tec may not be the highest reliability or quality, they do make some interesting and unique firearms...both pistol and rifle.
