PT9SFX and IDPA

Several shooters in my range have been asking me to shoot with them in a IDPA match. After reading the rules, I am not confident that my Canik PT9SFX fit's the Box. 8 3/4 x 6 x 1 5/8. 20 round extension makes the pistol taller than 6 inches. Does anybody have first hand information about which category the Canik lands according to the IDPA rules?

I'm pretty sure @Weapon shoots IDPA with his SFx. I could be wrong. I'm just getting into competition shooting so I don't know for sure. Hopefully someone will be along soon who will know. Also, I'm not sure but @Bchasse99 may also shoot IDPA.

I was wondering this as well and I found this on line.

1. With the supplied magazines, it's not legal in the following: Any IDPA division or USPSA production (it won't fit in the box at 6.2" tall). If the magazines can be swapped out with standard base plate models, it would fix that problem.

I know I kept my 18 round DA mags for some reason. There is a IDPA match at the end of the month I will have to try it out.

If you want to shoot legal IDPA, you'll have to pick up 3 standard 18-round mags, then you're legal. I only use my extended mags for steel matches.

I am only a USPSA guy for the time being. The only IDPA matches in the area are too far away to make them very convenient but rumor has it there may be a new range opening which will have IDPA and possibly three gun sp that may change in the near future.

Just got 3 new Canik/Metgar magazines. 18 round capacity. I understand I only load 10 rounds in I.D.P.A. matches. I want to load and test them before I go to a match. The height is approx 5 3/4 inches, down from 6 3/16 inch with 20 round original PT9 sfx mag's.

It will fit in the box. I've had my SFL with 18 round magazines boxed before. There isn't a lot of room left, but it doesn't scrape the sides.

Sorry to awaken this threat again, but isn't the SFx mag that is included an 18 round with a +2 baseplate? So, wouldn't it suffice to get a standard baseplate and convert it into an 18rd mag?

You are correct. The SFx uses an 18+2 setup. It's legal in USPSA/Steel Challenge, but will not fit the box for IDPA.
The base plate can be changed to the 18 round version, but with pre-Christmas pricing you may be able to find complete 18 rnd mags cheap.
IDPA rules are geared toward Defensive use (the D), whereas USPSA is slanted toward speed.

I was the SO for a guy this past Sunday shooting the TP9SFX with a Vortex Red Dot. It looked like he had the standard 20 round magazines and with the cut out in the IDPA box for optics, it fit with no problems.
I didn't know I would be buying one this soon or I would have looked closer.
