The Devil made me do it!!!!!

I've been hemming and hawing for months on purchasing an X5 Legion. Have tried a couple and really like the weight, balance and felt recoil. With the current situation of ammo and gun sales in a crazy state, I stopped by my local gun shop on the way home and was surprised to see this there...

...the devil won out and it followed me home. Will shoot it as is this weekend to try it out before the mods.

Lots of questions:

How does the recoil signature compare to an SFx? The bore seems higher so I was wondering if the flip was more pronounced.

OTOH, it is a much heavier gun, so it would have to be compared to a Ti weighted SFx.

Trigger weight and feel vs the SFx?

Accuracy?

Is it worth two SF' ONE's and an Elite ONE? (OK, kinda of an unfair question, the heart wants what the heart wants...)

Wonderful pistol! I have the X-VTAC, very nice trigger but not as good as our Canik's. The reset is excellent, but not quite as crisp on the break. The stock pull weight on my X-VTAC is 3 and 3/4 #s.

I shot a friends a few weeks ago with my reloads and it sits really flat. Very "soft" shooting with the added weight.
With a very light strong hand grip, the gun is nicely balanced.

Measured the trigger pull weight at 2# 9.3 oz, averaged 10 pulls. Trigger out of the box has about the same pre-travel as my SFx with the Freedomsmith trigger. Break is pretty clean, however the reset is a lot longer than the SFx. That's my only complaint. However...the gun will be going to "The Sig Armorer" for a Comp trigger job. Basically turns the gun into a single action P226!

Image

Accuracy will be determined once I hit the range. I'm expecting good things as my son switched from a Shadow 2 he had customized at Cajun Gun Works, to the Legion, and shot it for only the second time, and absolutely crushed an all classifier match. Outright won the match and beat a PCC Master and Open Master.

Cost...well it's only $$ and you can't take it with you!!!

Here's a comparision of his Shadow and X5 after trigger job...

Here he is shooting it at the Classifier match...helps to be young!!!

Optic is on and zeroed with the laser bullet so I'm ready to go...will follow-up.

Will do!

The few rounds I've tried with a friend's gun, it's amazing how flat it shoots. If you watch the video of my son shooting, at the start of the stage, you have a good view of the gun's recoil. Very flat!!!

 ...so much for a range report!!! Indoor and outdoor ranges are closed due to the governor's mandate.

Looks like this is as much as I'll get to do for now...
Transitions and natural POA feels good. :d

I also scatter them around to setup a mini stage...wife thinks I'm nut! X_X

I have one also.

I have shot it and my Elite Combat in back to back sessions at the range. My "feels" likes the P320 Legion more. It shoots flat, virtually no muzzle flip, fits my hand comfortably, the trigger is nice and I love the P320 platform (I have more than one, that's all I'm saying).

My targets say I'm better with the Elite Combat, not by much, but better. They are neck and neck up to 15 yards, after that, groups are better with the Canik. It might be that the weight of the Legion might just tire me out quicker. The Elite Combat just acts "right" over all, even though it doesn't feel as "calm" as the Legion. Both guns are stock both have optics.

I was surprised as to how well I shoot the Elite Combat. I was not disappointed in how the Legion shot, not at all.

Just my anecdotes, YMMV.

Still, if the Elite Combat is in the same company as the Shadow 2 and X5, that's pretty good company.

Well the Legion made it back home from TX. The Sig Armorer did an amazing job...thing is crazy!!
2# 9.3 oz when I sent it out...1# 14.9 is the 10 pull average now.

Finally have the X5 Legion mods are done! :-D

Grip module done, Springer Precision extended paddle mag release, GoGun gas pedal take down leaver, Springer Precision Trijicon SCO adapter plate, and SRO optic.

I'll be up front and say all my experiences with the SFx, and this forum, has helped me get to where I am today in my shooting career. Like anything in life, it all about "lessons learned"!!! You find the things that work for you and you build upon them. I shot my first match with the X5 last weekend. It was also the first match since the Covid crap started, and finished 5th overall. A couple stupid mistakes cost me 3rd, but that's life. Learn what you need to fix, and fix it!!!

Image

After getting the trigger work done I tackled the grip module. Built it up and applied 46/70 silicon carbide. The SIG X-Series grips tends to be very "flat" on the sides. I have a large hand and wanted to create the effects of contoured grip plates (palm swells) you'd find on a CZ. I used Gorilla Epoxy for the build-up. It's thick enough where it won't run when applied, and holds it shape, but is not that easy to get smooth when applied. In fact, you will always end up with a rough, bumpy surface. It all smooths out once sanded, but you have to account for it. I used Loctite White Marine Epoxy for the silicon carbide. It has a 2 hour dry time which works well for the application of the carbide. I used yellow electrical tape, and cut a couple pieces the long way as it makes it easy to form curves! Once the carbide was applied and dried for 45 minutes, I removed the tape and applied more carbide along the tape edge, tapping it in place. It finishes it off nicely.

First sanding, which included a dipped area by the mag release...
Image

Second coat applied...
Image

Silicon carbide finished, with a little clean-up to do...
Image

Image

Image

Recessed area by the mag well for the release and it helps to index your thumb when dumping the mag...
Image

Also molded in slight indents for the ring and pinky fingers...
Image

I also reshaped the mag well, as the metal one can't be used in CO. The reshaping really makes mag changes a breeze!!!

Last but not least was switching from the DPP to the SRO. Went with the 5 moa and pretty happy with it. Zeroed it this morning at 15 yds and ready to try it at a "Walls of Steel" match Sunday!
