I wouldn't recommend buying it for the purpose of IDPA competition. It is on the small side for SSP, and too wide in dimensions for CCP. Now, that is not to say if you own it don't go out and shoot with it, just that it's not ideal. The best IDPA gun in the Canik line-up is the TP9SFL.

Yes I already have the Canik.I usually shoot 1911 .Got rid of my Glocks and needed a 9mm.Did research on Canik and bought it.I now have a 1,000 rounds through it without any Malfunctions. So it has passed my CCW criteria.Just wanted to try it out in a competition.I would have to get a holster, large belt to take on and off that holds the holster and mag pouches.I usually shoot 45acp this gun has made me like 9mm again.Yes I would like to get a TP9Sx the comp gun although Im old school and probably wouldnt get a RMR for it.

NWcityguy2 is correct. The Elite would typically be considered a Conceal Carry Pistol (CCP), and it's dimensions are just outside the CCP dimensions 7 3/4 x 5 3/8 x 1 3/8, with width being the issue. You'd have to shoot in the Stock Service Pistol (SSP) division which has an inside box dimension of 8 3/4 x 6 x 1 5/8 inches.

If you're just looking to go out and have some fun, with the Elite, then just shoot SSP. You'll have fun and can test you're skills in defensive situations which is what IDPA is all about.

I mainly shoot my modified SFx at IDPA and Steel Challenge matches in the Carry Optics division. I occasionally shoot a P320 Carry and have used the Elite once. The Elite fits my SFx competition holster, it's just slightly tighter in the slide area (0.08"). A little polishing and a new plunger spring makes the Elite is a nice shooting gun.

Old school without old eyes would be great. However, if you are getting to the old eyes stage, the SFX and RMR can rekindle your enjoyment of shooting pistols.

I shoot my elite CCP. Check it in the box your club uses. Boxes are allowed to be 1/16" oversized. The rules say it must fit in the box, not that it must be X x Y x Z with a set of calipers. Yes, my club uses the plastic IDPA box from Berryville.
