Well, my MC9 reached the mothership in VT around 1230 this afternoon. The clock is now ticking. Let's see how long it will take to make its way back to me & what they say is (or is not) wrong with it. Hmmm....

I put another 200-ish rounds through my MC9 today. Mostly shooting the same 115gr generic bulk FMJ ammo that I use for shooting matches with. I did shoot one box of 20 of the self-defense ammo I use (Underwood 90gr Xtreme Defender).

I used the stock 12 and 15 round mags, which had been sitting, fully loaded, for a week or two, and 1 factory 20 round mag, and 1 factory 18 round mag with the guts and base replaced with a brass +4 and a spring and follower that gives another round or two of capacity. I can run 23 rounds in that mag, comfortably, for matches with my Rival-S.

The MC9 ran all 200 rounds with only one small hiccup. And that hiccup was towards the end of my shooting. I haven't cleaned the MC9 since I got it. What it did (IIRC) was not quite go into battery all the way. I'm inclined to chalk that one up to being filthy dirty. That ammo I've been shooting seems pretty dirty. Even my hands were filthy by the time I finished shooting today.

My Underwood ammo ran flawlessly, and was also pretty darn accurate at 10 yards.

I'm going to clean it and do another range trip to bang out another 100 rounds or so. If that goes without problems, I think I'll be ready to start carrying the MC9 as my EDC gun.

Oh, and I definitely do not like the stock trigger. When it's pulled all the way back and I'm shooting repeatedly just riding the reset, it feels like the curve of the trigger when it's all the way back causes my finger to end up all the way at the bottom and rubbing against the trigger guard.

I have a Freedomsmith trigger for it. After I clean it, I'll probalby go ahead and put that in, so I have it in there before the next range trip. I think that will fix the feel that I don't like about the stock trigger.

My finger rides down the trigger on the FS Vanguard style. I sort of wish I had bought a different trigger geometry. Something more like a J shape. I don't like curve at the top because that pushes my finger down over a series of shots, but some at the bottom would be good to keep me from riding down too far. Live'n'learn.

For those of you who have sent your MC9 in, have you had any communications with Canik yet? I hope this is a simple solution.

Sent mine back 5-1....got it back today. No correspondence from Canik at all and FedEx just showed up !!!
Paperwork indicates they installed new guide rod/spring.
We'll see how it goes next week.

If they have a new, lighter spring assembly then I want one! I know my gun is running but it would be nice to have another RSA if there was an issue. Looking forward to your feedback!

Well, after fighting with FedEx regarding delivery arrangements since Century Arms never contacted me at any point about the gun return, I got my MC9 back today.

According to the gunsmith comments, the following was done: "adj magwell, replaced recoil spring/5-11-23". I'm not sure what needed done to the magwell, since I never had any problems with that part of the gun. I'm interested to see if the new recoil spring solves all of the problems I was having with the wee thing.

I hope to get out to the range tomorrow morning before I go to sleep for work tomorrow night. Fingers crossed that I can make that happen. Further, hope springs eternal that the gun now functions as it ought to.

I'll post up a range update...

Update after return from Century Arms:

I was only able to dash off to my local indoor range for a short time today. I shot a little over 100 rounds of 124gr ammunition, a combination of Norma and s&b. I chose those two brands as they have very similar ballistic properties, in regards to muzzle energy and muzzle velocity.

I'm very pleased to report that this was the very first range trip with the mc9 that I did not experience any failures of any kind. I used both magazines that came with the gun, and both worked equally well. I find I am personally more comfortable with the 15 round magazine but that's personal preference.

I'll post up again next week when I have more time to go to the range.

Huh. You don't say! Who'da thunk it...

StuartV wrote: Mon Apr 03, 2023 12:52 pm Just my opinion, but I think every point in that video was a red herring. I think all those things he pointed out are normal and common in guns that work fine. Especially when they are new and breaking in.

My suspicion is that it just needs a stronger recoil spring.

LOL! :d

I would have been absolutely delighted to have received a recoil spring from century arms. I would have even replaced the faulty recoil spring with the replacement spring, myself. Had that been an option.

I seem to recall reading that when the sfx was first introduced, there were issues with the wrong strength recoil springs initially being sent. Replacement springs were sent to anyone who requested them. Perhaps I'm thinking of another gun? Or, was that the sfx?

Yes....had Century Arms recognized the problem and offered a new recoil spring I would have signed up to avoid the 6 week hassle for a piece that fits in a standard envelope !!!!

jlewis,

Yes, it was the original TP9 SFX that had the horrible RSA. I added the Sprinco setup to it and it ran fine. Now I run the W74 tungsten rod to change springs.

Have you guys shot your MC9s with the new RSA yet?

Pleased to say mine ran 100% today with previous main choker Blazer Brass 124....and Federal 124 and some HST. Not one issue and for the 1st time a joy to shoot !!! The new RSA certainly worked.....
