One thing for consideration, I suspect that some people are hesitant to discuss firearms related activity on a public forum due to the current political climate. Always some suspicion that a fed-boi from the AFT be watching for posts like "I'm stockpiling P80s, reloading my own ammo and building new ARs from my 3d-printed lowers".

And like others here have stated as well, I don't use any of the Social Media sites, so no face book for me! I depend on forums like this one for my information. Smaller forums like this one are nice as they don't have the same snobbery and flaming like you see on some of the bigger forums.

I think that is obvious in the last two threads I have started here with people reluctant to post pictures.

In my case it was laziness...it seems this characteristic comes into play in other areas of my life as well. In fact, I should be out cleaning the gutters right now, but...

And to tell you the truth, I have been spending a lot of time reading AR15.com (not a member) about the UKR war. Never in our lifetimes have we been able to get almost real time data about an armored war (sure, we used to get limited Pentagon releases of video) and it is just fascinating (and horrific at the same time).

It does take up time.

With over 10,000 members and only 19 people voting on this thread should be an indicator that forums are pretty much dead. Almost everyone has turned to social media for the instant gratification. Instead of taking the time to do some research and read threads, they post the same questions over and over and over. Very little interest in whether we shut down this forum or not. Only a handful of people are bothering to respond and discuss the topic. I myself don't bother to post much anymore since I rarely get replies or interaction.

As for the cost, I don't think it's over $600 a year to keep this forum online. As most know, I've been selling tshirts and stuff to fund this forum. However, over the last few months that has pretty much dried up. Not sure if it's the economy, or if Canik Fanatik has run it's course. Being that I'm disabled now and living on a fixed income, every penny is counted for. I do not have the discretionary funds to pay for a forum that sees little use. Sure, there's a lot of good content here, but it's not worth me paying for a forum that others use for free. If every member paid .50 cents a year to use this forum, we would have a surplus of money and be able to buy guns and other things again for giveaways. The purpose of this forum has never been to produce a profit, only to have a platform for the Canik brand. We've communicated with Century Arms and Canik in the past, but they aren't interested in helping our little forum. They are more interested in supporting influenceers on Instagram, Youtube and Facebook. Which of course makes sense, since that's what the vast majority use nowadays.

If people want to donate money to keep the forum going, great. But, given that only a handful of people have responded to this question is an indicator that only a few people would be funding the forum to keep it alive, while most people here use it for free. It's up to you all how you want to proceed. But at this point, the only way I'll keep it online is if others help fund it. I appreciate everyone who uses this forum and produces content for it. And I personally prefer a forum over social media, since it offers some anonymity, and our first and second amendments aren't restricted by the Socialist Nazi's who run the social media platforms.

But again, it's up to you all how we move forward, if at all. It's been a lot of fun, and I met some really cool people on here. But I just don't know what the future holds for this forum.

I think there is forum saturation. I check daily:
  • Warrior Talk
  • Canik Fanatik
  • ARFCOM
  • Brian Eno's (More useful Canik info here IMO)
  • M4Carbine
  • CZ Forum
  • HKPRO
  • 1911Addicts
  • Texas Gun Talk
  • TXCHL Forum
  • Walther Forums
Canik Fanatik is probably the least active of all of those. I understand the high costs, personally I'm not willing to pay to support.
I don't pay to support any of those forums. Although I have contributed to Eno's in the past and may start contributing to Warrior Talk as he is going to set up a Patreon channel to help cover his costs.

I've gained some great knowledge and tips here - and hopefully passed along a few tips of my own. I don't mind newbie's asking the same question, because it churns up the some stuff that's settled to the bottom. Let's face it, forums are a pain to search and find just the right answer to a question. Yes, people are lazy too.

Janik, do you have a Venmo handle? I am willing to pay to support. I've bought t-shirts and hats in the past, but I have enough of those.

Ditto...I am wearing one of my Canik shirts right now, and a handsomer Badger Boy has never been. I am also willing to pay to support, but don't need more Canik-wear. I appreciate your time and effort...it is not lost on me. Question: If I pay to support, can I edit and censor LT USN? He is mean and has offended my very sensitive feelings at times. ^#(^

As a new Canik owner, the site has been helpful. I have purchased a shirt thru Etsy and would like to buy more. I think that some committed people would pay and lurkers would leave. CanikFanatik seems like the only place to find good information other than YT, and half those YT yahoos might know guns, barely, but know Jack squat about filming, sound or editing.

And that's why I'm shutting it down, because of people like you who expect someone else to pay for it.
Wow, personal insults. "people like you". Nice.

I don't know the old format from here. I am on a Glock forum (not so much anymore way to over moderated with jerks that need to find a different hobby) It is very busy. The Hi-Point forum isn't as busy as it used to be. Same bunch on there. Lots of really great info on all kinds of gun, and non gun subjects.

Unless there is another forum that covers Caniks.

Caniks are gaining in popularity. Thing is Century can't keep the stores stocked up. Not like other makers.
