I am not 'all in' on defensive pistol red dots. I am working up to it. My first one was a CT1500 (Crimson Trace) and it was and still is junk. CT has replaced it 2 times (total of three RD) in the last 5 months. It wants to be a safe queen. If you use it, it breaks. If it gets wet, it breaks.

On the opsite end of my experiance in the useability spectrum, is the Holosun. I now have 4 of them (thanks to my wife's debit card) two (2) on AR-15 Pistols and two (2) on handguns.

HOLOSUN HS407K-X2 Classic Reflex Red Dot Only Sight (Cheaper only one reticle excellant optic)
HOLOSUN HS507K-X2 Classic Multi Reticle, Red Dot Sight (More expensive Multi Reticle excellant optic)

Holosun HE510CGR HE 510C 1x 2 MOA Green 2 MOA Dot/65 MOA Circle Black - Two (2) each) best AR optic period. End of discussion. Stop looking you have found your AR-15 Red Dot.

Available on Amazon and I bought 2 of them at BattleHawk Armoury (One of my favorite online gun shops).

Next up for me is the MeCanik M01 (Handgun for my Elite SC). I will post my impressions after I bang it out a bit.

I've bought or tried many of the pistol red dots out there, I agree 407/507 series is definently my preferred optic so far multireticle in green. Have them on most of my optics cut pistols.

Been waiting for good deal on one of the 510's I dunno if it'll be able to displace Primary Arms as my preferred budget carbine optic(I love the ACSS Reticles). When I get one I'll probably run it on my Scorpion or AK-V.

510's are great on some platforms. I have one on my MP5-K and CZ Scorpion. Never really run one on an AR though. I like them more for close range stuff which is why they are on 9mm guns. The ACSS is still a favorite of mine as well.

What about the Holosun 507C with the ACSS reticle? You like it on a carbine but not on a pistol?

I have a 507C-Green that I was using for USPSA/IDPA/SCSS. Then I got a 407CO and I like that even better. 8 MOA donut instead of the 2/32 MOA multi-reticle on the 507C. That said, my FTP Alpha 3 10 MOA dot is Out For Delivery and I expect that to take over on my primary competition pistol.

The green ACSS 507 is on my list too. I picked up my other ones during sales for $230-250 just waiting til I can snag one at around 300 or less, so far everytime they've hit that price somewhere they're OOS by the time find out. Not sure how I'll feel about the ACSS reticle I like simplicity of the circle and dot on conceal carry pistol gets me on target quick, the ACSS I may end up liking more for my distance target shooting pistols.
