I had this same problem with my SFX when I went from the medium to the small mag release. I would inadvertently drop the mag. Seems the opposite of what should happen but I think it comes down to the angle. My grip pressure acts kind of diagonal to the larger button so it gets trapped by my hand instead of pressed. The shorter button allows my had to press directly down on it and so it gets actually pushed in sometimes. Hopefully that makes sense.

Shot my local USPSA match today with my Rival. Had several failures to fire. It was my first time shooting some 115gr FMJ that I got from LAX. I think I have a 6# striker spring in there right now. I think I will probably switch to a 6.5# before my next time out. Today is not the first time I've had light primer strikes - and not just on the LAX ammo.

It's not my Canik, but... I shot an IDPA match with one of my 1911s last Saturday.

IDPA rules are oriented towards using a gun, belt, holster, and mag pouches that are what you would use for normal concealed carry. For ME, my Rival is too big and bulky for concealed carry, so I don't even have a holster for it that would be suitable for concealed carry. I could use the holster that came with it, under a "tactical vest" and that would be legal for IDPA. But, I think I would also have to change back to +0 base pads and buy some "normal" double stack mag pouches. All in all, too much trouble.

So, for IDPA I generally shoot my actual EDC gun, holster, and mag pouches. The only thing I change is my normal carry setup is with 38 Super. I change out the barrel and recoil spring for a 9mm setup and use mags for 9mm instead, when I shoot in IDPA.

What does a "Super Senior" (65+) do with themselves on a Sunday morning? They go shooting!

I shot in a six stage USPSA match this weekend that was a lot of fun. Yes, I'm slow but that doesn't make a difference. I enjoy the friendships I have developed at the various matches I shoot each month and, they put up with my sundial-like speed.

Results for the day: A: 105; C: 14; D: 2 and M: 1 (one handed with the weak hand) 86% "A hit rate, I can live with that.

Note the burn mark and hole in the middle of the barrel. Shooter before me put that there. Oooops! Thank you for playing.....

Really nice job on that Texas Star!

I shot the local USPSA match on Saturday. Normally, I shoot my Rival in Carry Optics. But, on Friday evening, my FTP Alpha 3 red dot was broken (though it seemed fine on Thursday evening). So, I took it off and put the original stock plate with the stock rear iron sights back on. Got to the match Saturday morning and changed my entry from CO to Limited. I didn't even get to check zero on the iron sights. Fortunately, they seemed to be fine. Kudos to Canik for having a pretty solid optic plate system.

I finished 6th in Limited, out of 14. 33rd out of 58 Overall, which included a bunch of PCC shooters. No jams or other issues (FINALLY!), so my lackluster results are ALL me for a change.

Nice. Is that a Bul SASII Tac? 5"?

Are you shooting 40? 9 Major?

It looks like the gun shoots really well. (as do you, obviously)

Do you have any thoughts on how a Rival might do if set up as an Open gun? Do you think it would handle 9 Major? Or is that a recipe for a cracked frame? Seems like with a comp on it, 9 Major might be okay.

Limcat Phantera HBAR in 9 Major. I was shooting some garbage 115gr HS-6 loads. It feels better with 124gr and better still with 3N38.

I would not shoot a Rival or any polymer gun in 9 Major. The risk of injury from a case rupture is too high. I would shoot it with Minor ammo in Open division, without a comp, perhaps a frame weight. I don't even think it needs a frame mounted sight, just shoot it in Carry Optics configuration with a mag well and a large magazine extension.

Well, since it's pretty dead around here, I'll post another of my non-Canik match videos. This was my local club's monthly IDPA match.

I'm shooting my Dan Wesson Guardian, with a 9mm barrel in it, in ESP division. I have been enjoying shooting iron sights in IDPA and shooting my Rival in USPSA Carry Optics.

However, I have ordered some IDPA-legal mag carriers for double stack mags and I'm planning to shoot my Rival in IDPA Carry Optics at the next match. I'll use the holster that came in the box with the Rival. I love my 1911s, but there is more competition in the CO division at these local matches than in the ESP division.

And now, without further fanfare, old slow guys!

Our monthly USPSA match with one of the clubs I shoot with. Finally tally? 13th out of 21 in CO with 97 "A" hits and 16 "C". No "M"s or NS (No shoots).

Did I mention that I was slow?
