Re: Cast Bullets Keyholing

In my TP9SA, poly coated has been the way to go. No more keyholing. Tested a 125 gr RN poly coat bullet from Gallant Bullets in Utah. Shot that bullet over Unique and 231 with fairly good preliminary results.

The larger backstrap definitely makes a difference. It's not any thicker/wider, but makes the "hump" on the back of the grip higher. I installed the larger size on mine, and ran with it for a few weeks, then swapped the smaller size back on. Found that I vastly preferred the smaller size....

Shell Rotella 15w-40 synthetic diesel oil on all my 3gun firearms and all the other firearms as well. I've used it for years from 0F-90F with no issues. No corrosion issues ever but I live in a high dry climate where corrosion isn't much of an issue unless you get snow on your tactical bolt gun and...

When I'm not reloading, I shoot Federal bulk 115 gr. My TP9SA loves that ammunition and its point of impact is identical to my 124 gr HP handload. My TP9SA is an early model and has had at least 2500 rounds thru it to date.

I don't know if this will help you but, I had problems with cast bullets shooting in my TP9SA, keyholing and leading, so in desperation I gave 124 grain poly coated bullets a try and that solved my problems. accuracy is pretty good considering plain cast were all over the target frame.

Mt TP9SA has a preference for 1125 FMJ Federal Bulk ammo. Shoots that load into less than 2" at 25 yards. My 115 grain XTP load with Longshot has shot as tight as 1.2" but the norm is just under 2" at 25 yards. Cast bullets won't shoot better than 3" in my pistol for some reason.

I retested the 3.8 grain load with Unique powder and a Bayou Bullets 124 grain poly coat RN. 25 rounds yielded a 3.5" group average at 25 yards. Smallest group was 2.1" and the largest was 4.8"" Not a bad practice load on steel.

I agree. The slide stop is a pain to engage when locking back the slide w/o a mag in place. Other than that, it's one helluva pistol!
