Re: TP9SFL Discontinued?

Maybe Century has chosen not to import the SFL and SFT but Canik Firearms website still lists them in their product line.

Re: Salvaging my Tristar parts

Project completed and I'm pleased with the results. The T-120 slide has beveled sides from the rear of the extractor to the muzzle leaving little real estate on the top to mount an optic. Luckily the Vortex Venom just barely fits in the length of full width slide behind the extractor. The machinist ...

Re: Canik\Tristar P-120

Tristars of all the P, T and C line 120 and 100s shoot pretty darn good. I love my T-100 and I have yet to order any springs just yet from CGW. I wanted to see how it faired after break in and so far I have not been disappointed. I definitely can see a 120 model in my future after my other purchase...

Re: CGW and CZ recoil springs in a Tristar

I encourage replacement at the factory recommended 2500 round mark in the aluminum frame Tristar models just as an inexpensive precaution. I don't know that my gun cracked from a worn out recoil spring but I also don't know whether Canik's aluminum frame is capable of holding up to hot ammo and high...

CGW and CZ recoil springs in a Tristar

I have bought Tristar, CZ and Cajun Gun Works recoil springs and they are all different. This is a heads up to full size Tristar (P, S or T 120mm) owners as to the differences and what WON'T WORK. You can call Tristar and order a spring. It is the same as the factory OEM spring. Kinda pricey at $20 ...

Re: Can anyone define +P?

Thanks Doc. I follow what you are saying although I'm getting to the edge of being confused. I guess I'll quit fixating on muzzle velocity and accept that barrel pressures are what to worry about. Since neither Fiocchi or S&B rate their ammo +P I guess I won't worry about damage since their pressure...

Re: Can anyone define +P?

Thanks, now I just need to translate pressure into muzzle velocity. Can any reloaders out there tell me what a 3,000 lb pressure difference between standard ammo and +P translates into in muzzle velocity? Edit: SAAMI standards reference maximum pressures. What minimum pressures, and more importantly...

Can anyone define +P?

Is there a minimum muzzle velocity for each grain bullet that classifies the ammunition as +P? I have been shooting Sellier & Bellot 115 grain and recently looked at the specs for it. S&B is spec'd at 1280 fps which is higher than some ammo that is spec'd at 1180 fps but rated as +P. Same with Fiocc...

Re: Salvaging my Tristar parts

I doubt many people are willing to invest upgrade money into a sub $400 gun. Milling and red dot cost would likely equal the gun cost new and certainly exceed the used value of a Tristar.
Hadn't thought about cerakoting but it would be cool to have the slide match the frame.

Re: Salvaging my Tristar parts

I'm thinking the steel removed would weigh double or triple what the optic would, depending on what optic I use. I've got a SFX and the standard plate that you remove weighs much more than the Vortex Venom (1+ oz). It balances out by adding the mounting plate weight back on to the slide. But a mille...

Salvaging my Tristar parts

I mentioned in a previous thread that one of my Tristar T-120s developed a crack in the frame. I'm thinking that I might like to put a red dot optic on a T-120. Now that I have a spare slide I could have it milled without a complete commitment to the red dot. I'm looking for any experience/advice fr...

Re: Love and hate, life with a Tristar

I already have a CZ75 and I already have another T-120 that I bought in anticipation of the T line being discontinued.
CZ also makes aluminum framed pistols but they are in the compact line, not full size. The P-01 and PCR are aluminum frames.

Re: Love and hate, life with a Tristar

Seems low to me too.
Maybe the 2000 round recommendation is related to the aluminum frame and it is intended to reduce forces that a steel frame could handle better.

Good price. Aluminum?
Have you fired it yet with the new grips? Is the textured area large enough to give some grip?

Love and hate, life with a Tristar

I have a Tristar T-120 that is/was my favorite pistol. I like it so much that I a bought a second T-120 when I discovered that Canik had dropped the T model from their line. I've run the round count to over 13,000. Last week I noticed a stress crack in the frame running from the safety to the rear e...

Re: Romeo Tango Discusses the SFx and Q5 Match

I have an SFx but I've never held a Q5 so my comments reference the generic Canik and Walther PPQ grips. I prefer the Canik grip over the Walther. I have a standard 4" PPQ and I thought I loved the fit of the grip in my hand. However, I discovered that somewhere above 50 rounds the rear edge begins ...

Re: Did Canik drop hammer fired pistol line?

I emailed Tristar and asked if Canik had stopped production of the hammer fired line and whether parts and service would be available in the future. I attached their noncommittal answer below. They don't directly respond to whether the pistols are still in production. I think if this was just rumor ...

Re: Did Canik drop hammer fired pistol line?

Not yet. Zeda3000 is located in Turkey and said they are only producing the TP line.
I emailed Tristar but they haven't responded yet.
When the manufacturer stops displaying a product on their website I take that as a pretty clear sign that it isn't for sale.

They are selling out current production and sweeping prices. Not sure if there is something on the horizon. Just picked up a t-100 for 289 new.
That's a good price. They usually sell for around $370.
