Re: 1911 .45acp questions

1911s can indeed have some quirks. Not necessarily manufacturer specific. If they have the original internal extractor, they often need a bit of “tuning” to allow proper feeding and extraction. Mild radius at the lower edge at the extractor hook to allow the rims of the rounds to slide smoothly up t...

I did have a friend who based a lot of his head choices on whether “you could dive it or not”.

Re: Lever action or semi auto carbine?

If you want to pick up a used leveraction at a decent price, check the pawn shops after hunting season. Sometimes right before Christmas. Folks pawn them when work is slow, they aren’t hunting and Santa needs monetary backing.

Re: Lever action or semi auto carbine?

I picked up a Marlin 336 lever action at a pawn shop for a rock bottom price several years ago. I had fun playing around with it. Tried running it in carbine drills, which was fine if I didn’t need reloads. I tried low power shotgun scope, and even a red dot. The lever action should not be underesti...

Re: newb looking for range ammo advice

Fiocchi, Sellier&Bellot, IMI, Speer Lawman all worked well in the early round counts with my Caniks. After they each digested their first 1K or so rounds, they seem to eat most anything. I’ve run Federal, American Eagle, Remington UMC, Winchester USA, Blazer brass and aluminum case, Federal Champion...

Re: Holster Question: Self-Defense vs. Competition

As Lgaam said, when drawing from appendix, I am mostly bringing the pistol straight up my body and meeting my support hand near chest level. Then I’m just pushing/pointing straight out from my chest, almost like punching the muzzle forward toward my target while I find my front sight. It becomes pret...

Re: Carrying with an empty chamber

I can cite a real world example of where a loaded chamber made a difference, and an empty chamber would have likely had a very different outcome. A friend was working out of town and staying in a hotel for a few days. He was headed to his truck to go get dinner. As he walked through the parking lot,...

Re: Can anyone define +P?

Unfortunately it’s not that simple. The peak pressure may occurs oat different points in the bullets path down the barrel based on what powder a manufacturer is using, what overall outer diameter the bullet truly is, and how much bearing surface and friction is generated by the bullet. Any data a ma...

Re: Love and hate, life with a Tristar

I already have a CZ75 and I already have another T-120 that I bought in anticipation of the T line being discontinued. CZ also makes aluminum framed pistols but they are in the compact line, not full size. The P-01 and PCR are aluminum frames. Correct on the CZ compact aluminum frames. My point was...

Re: Love and hate, life with a Tristar

Well you have proved that you like the design. If you need to replace it, save up and get a CZ. You already know you will like it and, CZ and their metal framed pistols are not likely to be removed from the catalog any time soon.

Re: Good AR optic?

If going for a Dot, then Aimpoint is about as good as you get for durability and battery life.

ACOG is really hard to beat for a durable, low magnification prism site.

Re: New CZ addition

I run an 18 lb recoil spring with a stainless guide rode. I don't like the whole double action thing and only bought it because of the manual safety that allows it to be carried cocked and locked. The P07 is one of my most accurate pistols or I just shoot it well. I’m actually in the opposite camp,...

Re: New CZ addition

Yeah. The P07 seems to hit that “Goldilocks” size. Not too big, not too small, but just right. I was really torn between adding this P07 or getting the P09. But I like my other P07 for carry so much, I figured, “why mess with what is already working?”

New CZ addition

Picked this up. Next step is figuring out what can I want to buy to use with it. Looking at the AAC Ti-Rant, or Rugged Supressors, Obsidian 9.

Re: Romeo Tango Discusses the SFx and Q5 Match

but I can’t REALLY change the grip shape I put a Hogue sleeve on mine and I like it muchly better now. I find the slip on Hogues to be ok. But they add thickness, which can also affect trigger reach. As far as trigger reach goes, the Canik and Walther are already where I want them. I just find the ...

Re: Romeo Tango Discusses the SFx and Q5 Match

Also, it would be interesting to see if the trigger resets are any different with their brand matched slides and frames in place. Sear engagement distances could be slightly different.

Re: Romeo Tango Discusses the SFx and Q5 Match

The one of the things I think Canik could do a bit better, is the grip shape. There is still some blockiness to it on the corners. This is the one thing that could have me look at the Walther over the Canik. I can change a lot of things on a Canik with the money I’d save, but I can’t REALLY change t...
