This has been something that I am not satisfied with. The cerakote on my SFx example has begun to wear off much sooner than I would have liked.
With a name like "Sandpaper", I can only imagine that you have trouble with surface wear on guns or anything for that matter... :d

Re: Best finish for durability?

The colonel has it right...think of Cerakote as the candy coating on an M&M. A nitriding process is a metallurgical alteration of the immediate surface, and will be more integral and resistant to delamination.

I have a degree in Metallurgical Engineering, yet am not an expert on springs. There is a whole science and area of study on springs and metallurgical and mechanical design affecting the performance, cycle life and fatigue of springs. I will offer that cycling a spring will change its characteristic...

And another great branch of the SAR family is the CM9 Gen2...again, $250-ish...hammer fired...solid, reliable...who needs drugs and rock-n-roll when you can have so much fun collecting "value" pistols?

Re: SAR9 Full Tilt Service

Thanks Zeda for your first-hand information...although I will admit that it saddens me. The high opinion of my SAR pistols is shaken, but on the positive side, I have too many pistols for any of them to get too high a round count...and I paid $300 or less for each SAR. If they die at 5000 rounds, so...

Never like the Sarsilmaz but nice job. He created from nothing to somehting. Impressive.
Maybe not to Canik level, but what don't you like about the SAR 9? I have several SARs and they all are rock solid. I view the SAR 9 as the value version of Glock.

Don't make me start telling jokes again. Noooooooooooo! OK, since you asked nicely...A penguin's car breaks down and he goes to the mechanic. The mechanic says "I'll have to put it on the lift and diagnose the problem...maybe an hour...". The penguin says, "no problem, I will go across the street t...

Re: Anything New and Cool in the Gun World?

Thank you for the invite, but I will have to take a rain check for a while. I travel often for work, and have had a 6 week respite...but back to Germany the week after next, then the summer "slowdown" comes to an end and travel hell breaks loose.

Re: Anything New and Cool in the Gun World?

MY LGS puts together an AR that they "designed" and build. They claim it is the best you will find for the money...every so often they take orders. Maybe I will have to have a discussion. But I think the Ruger Carbine is next.

Re: Anything New and Cool in the Gun World?

open for guidance on the other options... pull trigger, go bang! Have you explored building an AR-9? Strange, but the AR-thing hasn't grabbed me yet. Everybody tells me I will catch the fever, and I am missing out, etc., but I am kind of blah on it...other options seem to have a greater draw. I do ...

Re: Anything New and Cool in the Gun World?

Added two Henry lever action rifles recently. Golden Boy .22Mag octagon barrel and the basic .22LR for frequent plinking. Lots of fun. I think the Ruger 9mm Carbine is next. You just can’t go wrong with the ruger carbine. Which barrel do you like best No decision yet other than 17 round 9mm, but op...
