Shooting SFX without Firing Pin Block Plunger and Spring

Post by red930 » Wed Oct 10, 2018 6:34 pm

Has anyone tried shooting their SFX without the Firing Pin Block Plunger and Spring installed? I noticed that all the high end CZs have it removed for a smoother and lighter trigger pull.

I have a CZ Shadow 2 (no firing pin block), very sweet shooting pistol. Highest quality semi auto pistol I have ever owned and shot. I replaced 3 springs in it and have the DA @ 5 lbs 13 oz, and SA @ 2 lbs 2 oz. Wheeler Digital scale. Still totally reliable.

But on the SFX if you polish the plunger, clean up the plunger bore a wee bit, and use a reduced power plunger spring with it (I have the Ghost Glock spring installed), its the next best thing to not having it at all. I believe whatever resistance that plunger is causing in my SFX now is minimal, if even measurable. And you still have an active weapon drop safety.

You do better going after the trigger return spring after you've done most all the other action mods, that baby is fairly stout. Weapon has a guide for finding/making a custom one.
To my knowledge, no one is offering a reduced power trigger return spring you can purchase readily for the Canik SF models. If they are, I wanna buy one.

If you haven't already, you should read Weapon's SF Mods article. He outlines what he has found from trial and experience to work the best. Highly recommended reading.

Yeah I polished the FPB plunger (did it on two SFXs I have) with 1000/1500/2000 grit and used the Wolff Glock reduced power FPB spring and all is well with that. Just wondering why not leave it out.

Well if you own a precision trigger pull measuring device, measure with and without the plunger safety installed and see if it is really worth it.

I tested measuring the trigger pull on two SFXs, without the FPB plunger and spring, and then with a polished FPB plunger and a Wolff reduced power FPB Glock spring. There was no difference.

But SFX #1 is an early model with a Fat Daddy trigger. Trigger pull is 2 lb 2 oz average.

SFX #2 is only two weeks old and came with the severe duty blue heavy FPB spring. It still has the original trigger. Trigger pull is 3 lb 6 oz average. But it has almost 1/2” pre-travel versus the 1/8” for the Fat Daddy.

YMMV

Good test. Now we know. My SFX is 3 months old. I put in the 6.5 lb Ghost striker spring and RP plunger spring, and some very light polish. I'm @ 3 lbs 7 oz now. Still oem trigger. Shot her today, she is a boss!

That’s a DQ if they catch you doing it in competition.
