Gunsmithing Books

Post by Broxson » Sun Sep 09, 2018 4:44 pm

Im looking for recommendations for a book on general handgun gunsmithing. Or even a book on handgun maintenance. My ideal would be something thats fairly comprehensive and fairly easy for a beginner to mostly understand. Ive looked on amazon and theres just so many choices.. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks.

To be honest, the internet is the best place I've found...videos are better than static pictures. I've found all I've needed there...if it isn't on the net, it's probably more than I care to dig into anyway, and a job better done by the professional gunsmith in town.

Yeah, what he said.

Every time I've had issues, take the tablet to the gun room. Forward, rewind, forward, rewind. Seeing somebody doing it and explaining it really has helped me out. Well, in gunsmithing, not in anything else... :-?

Yeah, there are so many comments I could make, but I will leave it be. :-

I dont want to feel like a burden or like Im not willing to do the research to find the answer on my own. But you can bet there will be lots and lots of questions coming from this guy.

Burden? Bah...honest questions and honest help is what we serve up here. I can give you the basics...like which end not to look into. Others here have depth and breadth of knowledge and experience (a nice way of saying 'old'), and are very willing to share. Sometimes we even have fun doing so...

Hi Broxson,

If you are interested in gun books then take a look at Brownells.com. They have a large variety and most are very good. The advantage of books is they provide detail information about parts and materials. If you want to gunsmith a specific gun they offer manuals for many guns. They also have books to customize certain guns like the 1911.
